SARA LERNER Obituary

Lerner, Sara (Goldfarb) Of Lincoln, Massachusetts. She was born in Brooklyn, on March 28, 1919. She was 95 years old at the time of her death, on April 9, 2014. She was the first child of Sam and Lillian Goldfarb. She had three younger brothers and sisters-in-law: Milton (deceased) and his wife Ruth, Daniel and his wife Adrian (deceased), and Norman and his wife Gene. Sara was married to Max Lerner (deceased) and they had two children: Richard, married to Jacqueline, and Robert (deceased). Richard and Jacqueline have three children: Justin, Blair, and Jarrett. Blair is married to Jeremy Ramsey and they have one child, Harper Rose Ramsey, who was 17 months old at the time of Sara's passing. Sara was a brilliant woman who was an accomplished artist, loved reading, took great joy in solving crossword puzzles in ink, and relished the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchild. Sara remained informed, engaged, and witty through the time of her death. She was a devoted friend and supportive and caring daughter, spouse, sister, mother, aunt, cousin, and friend. Despite her considerable medical challenges across the last several years, Sara was tenacious in her insistence on living – and dying – on her own terms. She lived independently in her own apartment through the time of her death. She was loved and will be deeply missed. Services were held at Boulevard Riverside Chapels in Brooklyn, NY on Friday April 11. She was buried next to her husband in Old Montefiore Cemetery, in Springfield Gardens, Queens, NY.

It was my pleasure to work with Sara for a short time. I loved arriving at her home as a home health aide (Associated Home Care) and helping her create her magnificent dinners. She always had a story to tell about her family. She always asked how my students (the children I teach during the week) were and what curriculum on which we were focusing. She was a kind and caring woman who always asked if I needed anything. I was sad that I didn't have a chance to say good-bye but I know that she has moved on to a better place. I am sorry that I knew her for such a short time and wish I had known her longer. She will be deeply missed and I will remember her every time I eat a butterscotch candy. Rest in peace Sara. Just know that you were loved by all and you will be missed by everyone with whom you came in contact.

We have known Rich and Jackie for 25 years and have always known the love, respect and honor that they have for Mrs Lerner. These last years have been a challenge but the absolute love and devotion the family shows for each other is amazing. Even though I did not know Mrs Lerner I think we all knew her through Rich...the words used in the obituary are words we would ascribe to Rich.
