Sara Lyons Obituary

87, formerly of Florence, died peacefully in her sleep on September 26, 2007, following a brief illness. Sara was born in Northampton on February 9, 1920, the daughter of the late Antony and Anne (Panysh) Mordes. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend. She married James Lyons on October 15, 1949. He preceded her in death in January, 1970. She worked for the Francis P. Lyons Insurance Agency in Northampton for many years before retiring in 1985. She was a lifelong resident of Florence, MA, in a neighborhood she fondly referred to as Little Russia until she moved to Reading, Mass. in 2002 to be closer to her daughter. She was a longtime communicant of Our Lady of the Annunciation Parish in Florence and most recently St. Agnes Parish in Reading. She was an avid and excellent cook and baker. Friends, family, and charity functions were the delighted beneficiaries of her many secret recipe treats. She leaves her son, James Lyons, and his wife Tammy of Goshen, MA; a daughter, Linda Goodemote, and her husband David of Reading, MA; a brother, Joseph Mardas of Holyoke and a sister, Stella Weese of Rockville, MD. She was the beloved grandmother of Luke and Abby Goodemote and Jacob Lyons as well as the great-grandmother of Isabella Saggese. She also leaves several nieces and nephews. The Family has asked that you join them on Monday, October 1, at 9:00 A.M. for a Memorial Mass at St. Agnes Church, 186 Woburn St. in Reading. Burial services were already held in Florence in Peter & Paul Russian Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Our Lady of the Annunciation Church, 87 Beacon Street, Florence, MA 01862. The Czelusniak Funeral Home of NORTHAMPTON was entrusted with arrangements.

Dear Linda,
You are in my thoughts and prayers. I know what a difficult time these last few months have been. Although there may be a small feeling of relief, there is still such a tremendous hole in your life right now... May fond memories and the beautiful "do you remember" moments start to fill in that hole very soon. Take care of yourself!

Linda, David, Abby, Luke and Isabella, You are in our thoughts and prayers. Although we only met your mother a few times, she was a lovely woman and I know she is with you during this very difficult time. I hope you will remember all the wonderful times she shared with you through the years. Take care and if you need anything, I hope you won't hesitate to call. With sincere love, Tanya & Gus
