HACKETT, Sarah Ann Andrews Entrepreneurial Humanitarian to Haiti Dies Sarah Hackett was known to many as a creative force persevering on behalf of the poor in Haiti. She died near her lifelong home in Annisquam on December 26, 2022, at the age of 96. After retiring in 1993 from a career as a leader in Cambridge's visiting nurse community, Sarah began living out a sense of vocation that she had felt as a young college student: to follow in the footsteps of Albert Schweitzer, by serving the poor in a third world country. For 28 years she lived part-time in Fond des Blancs, Haiti, working at first for the St. Boniface Foundation clinic, and later, starting up one program after another to improve the health, education, and economic self-sufficiency of the people, especially women. At the age of 91, Sarah launched her last project for Fond des Blancs, the Greening Haiti Fund, which works to reverse deforestation. Contributions to GHF in Sarah's name would be most welcome.
