Shu Wong Obituary

WONG, Shu Ying (David) Of Brookline and Boston, age 84, passed away peacefully from natural causes on Sunday, July 25, 2010. Born in Hoiping, China, he was the devoted son of the late Gow Sue Wong and the late Jew Yee Moon Wong. He was the cherished husband of his beloved wife Margaret Yuu Wong for 60 years. He is lovingly survived by six of his seven children, Karyn Wong Ching (spouse of Kin Lok Ching), the late Sharyn Wong-Chan (spouse of Stephen Chan), Wilson Wong (spouse of Linda Santosa Wong), Warren Wong (spouse of Susan Wong), Winston Wong (spouse of Agnes Wong), Marilyn Wong (spouse of George Wong) and Wayne Wong (spouse of Mandy Wong). Also, he was the loving grandfather of fifteen grandchildren: Karl and Kevin Ching; Eric and Stephanie Chan; Suzanne and Jennifer Wong; Jason (spouse of Jengie Pineda Wong), Jonathan and Andrea Wong; Christopher and Adam Wong; Andrew Wong; and Jessica, Ashley and Emily Wong, and great-grandfather of Julia and Jordaine Wong. Dear brother of his devoted sisters, Kathleen (Kay) Chin (spouse of Frank Chin) and Irene Gan (spouse of Wayne Gan) and caring Uncle David of several nieces and nephews. Shu Ying (David) was president of Sun Sun Company, a family business which was started by his father, the late Gow Sue Wong. He was a dedicated and prominent Boston Chinatown community leader. He was on the board of directors of the Kwong Kow Chinese School, South Cove Manor Nursing Home, and The Chinese Historical Society of New England (also a co-founder and honorary president), as well as a former president of the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association of Boston. In addition to his involvement in many other civic organizations, Shu Ying (David) received many community service awards for his outstanding leadership in the Chinese community, including a treasured proclamation declaring Sunday, June 25, 1989 as "David Wong Day" by Raymond Flynn, former mayor of the City of Boston. He will be deeply missed by all of his family and many friends. There will be a funeral service at Boston Harborside Home of J.S. Waterman & Sons-Waring-Langone, 580 Commercial St., BOSTON, Monday, August 2, at 11:00 a.m. followed by a procession to Forest Hills Cemetery. Family will receive friends and relatives at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service. Visitation on Sunday, August 1, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Parking attendants on duty.
