STEPHEN W. "STEVE" HOMER

1941 - 2021

HOMER, Stephen W. "Steve" Died peacefully at home in Hamilton, Massachusetts on August 24, 2021. He was eighty years old. He will be remembered for his sense of humor, his generous spirit, and his poetic soul. Steve was born on February 25, 1941 in Arlington, Massachusetts to William Flagg Homer Jr., and Charlotte Lloyd Homer. He had an older sister, Rosamond Homer Bunnell, who died in 2012. He graduated from Mount Hermon School for Boys in 1958 and Harvard College in 1962. In 1959, he met his wife, Marcy, and the two were married in 1962. They had three daughters between 1964 and 1968.Steve began his career at the New England Telephone Company and then moved to General Electric. From there, he became bursar of Harvard University, a position he held for fifteen years. In 1993, after stints at Fidelity and 440 Financial Group, he was accepted into the Preservation Carpentry program at the North Bennet Street School in Boston. He graduated at age fifty-five and opened North Shore Restorations. The Peabody Essex Museum, the Stephen Phillips House in Salem, the Danvers Historical Society, and the Peabody Historical Society were among his many clients. Steve was also active in local government, and a pillar of the Hamilton Historic District Commission and the town's Finance Committee. Steve was an honorable, kind, and humble man; he was a thoughtful neighbor and had friends of all ages. He was a dear husband, an engaged and devoted father, and to his seven grandchildren the most amazing grandfather on Earth. Steve is survived by his wife, Martha Haugen Homer; his daughters Susan Flagg Homer (David Atkin), Karoline Homer Ryan (James Ryan), and Kristen Lloyd Homer (James Poulson); and seven grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, charitable contributions may be made in memory of Stephen William Homer to the North Bennet Street School, 150 North Street, Boston, MA 02109, or to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan Street, Suite B-102, Danvers, MA 01923. Services will be private.
