Susan GEROULD Obituary

GEROULD, Susan Of Medford, died on June 30, 2025, after a long battle with ovarian cancer. Sue was born in Roslyn, NY on September 22, 1946. She spent her early childhood years in Rochdale, MA, then moved to Philadelphia, where she graduated from Germantown Friends School and Philadelphia College of Art.

Sue was blessed with a flair for design and color. She was Art Director at Stockton State College in Pomona, NJ and art editor for textbooks at Houghton Mifflin Company in Boston. In the early 1980s, she established Perspectives, a business specializing in textbook design and production. In 2000, she was joined in her business by her husband, Will Tenney. Together, they were able to take on larger and more complex publishing projects.

As an adult, she lived in New Gretna, New Jersey, Beacon Hill in Boston, Somerville and ultimately Medford, MA, where she remained for the rest of her life.

Sue loved to travel and was at home in the outdoors. She was a fine gardener and was artful and adventurous in her cooking. Her travels took her as far away as Istanbul and New Zealand, with frequent trips to France and the rest of Europe. All these trips combined bicycling and hiking with cultural and culinary experiences. But close to her home and close to her heart were places she could visit every day: the Middlesex Fells, the Annisquam River in Gloucester, and the Mystic River in Medford.

Sue was generous, steady, and kind to those who knew her. She had a keen instinct for what they might need and how to give it to them. Her presence and support helped people to be the best versions of themselves. Her friends, family, and community are richer for having had Sue in their lives.

Sue leaves behind her husband of 33 years, Will Tenney; stepchildren, Sarah Blackburn (Christopher); and their children, Henry and Georgia; and Whitney Tenney Pak (Ricky); siblings, Rosemary Barrett (Steve); and their son, Cedric; Stephen Gerould (Carolyn); and their son, Ames; and Sarah Gerould (Will Miller); and her children, Alex and Hannah Cohn.

Donations to Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute or the Greater Boston Food Bank would be appreciated.
