Susan REEDER Obituary
REEDER, Susan (Carnes) Of Weston, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2024, with family at her side.
Susan was born on April 1, 1941, to Ellen Bruyn Carnes and Preston Ira Carnes. The middle child and only daughter, Susan grew up in Fairfield, CT before attending Emma Willard School, graduating in 1959, followed by Skidmore College, graduating in 1963 with a BS degree in nursing.
In 1963, Susan married Henry "Dusty" Reeder, and their first daughter, Wendy, was born in 1964. They lived in Sudbury, MA before moving to Weston, MA in 1967, after their son, Nat, was born in 1966.
Susan became interested in professional cooking, studying both here and abroad. To the delight of her friends and family, she started a successful catering company and taught many classes. Eventually, Susan ending up as part owner of Modern Gourmet in Newton, MA and working for Creative Gourmet and Currier and Chives catering companies.
Susan was also a devoted grandmother, cherishing her nine grandchildren and becoming their beloved "Nanu." She treasured the summers spent with them on Nantucket, collecting shells and creating lasting memories.
In 1969, Dusty co-founded ARC/Architectural Resources Cambridge, which is now in its 57th year. Their third child, Liza, was born in 1971. Despite her busy life, Susan made time to attend all her children's events, always prioritizing family.
Susan enjoyed needlepointing with her friends and eventually returned to nursing, volunteering over 5000 hours at the Emerson Hospital ICU in Concord, MA helping post-op patients.
Susan is survived by her husband, Dusty; her daughter, Wendy Enelow, her husband, Jim; and children, Benjamin, Henry and George; her son, Nat; his daughter, Samantha and his two boys, Shane and Maxwell; and by her daughter, Liza Carey, her husband, Andrew; and children, Madeline, Lindsay and Hadley. Susan is also survived by her brother, Peter and his wife, Deborah of Darien, CT; and her sister-in-law, Charl of Yarmouth, ME. Susan was predeceased by her parents; and her younger brother, Tim.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Susan Reeder to the Dr. Hung's Parkinson's Research at Mass General Hospital.
A Celebration of Susan's Life will be held at a later date.
