Thomas Dyer Obituary

Of Lexington July 2, 2002. Age 80. Husband of the late Hilda Worrall Dyer. Father of Sharon Dyer, Debbie Dyer Killory, Pammy Dyer Stewart, Elaine Dyer Tarquinio, Joyce Ann Dyer BSA. Father in-law of Steve Frigand, David Killory, Brian Dyer Stewart, and Paul Dyer Tarquinio. Grandfather of Cara, Hannah and Michael Frigand; Brendan, Erin and T.J. Dyer Killory; Jesse, Gene, Mahala and Sam Dyer Stewart; Luci and Emma Dyer Tarquinio. Brother of Madelyn McKenna, Lilli Murray, the late Veronica McIntosh, the late John Dyer & the late Dolores Dyer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Friday, July 5 at St. Brigid's Church, 2001 Mass. Ave., Lexington at 10:00am. Relatives & friends are kindly invited to attend. Visiting hours Wednesday (today) 4-6 PM. Born at home in Medford, he was a 1939 graduate of Medford High School and MIT, class of 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy as a pilot during WWII. He worked for the Boston and Maine Railroad from 1946-1963, ending as Chief Engineer. In 1963, he founded Thomas K. Dyer Inc., a rail transportation consulting firm. The company was based in Lexington, but served clients around the world. The firm began with a single employee and grew to a work force of seventy people. The company was sold to Howard Needles Tammen & Bergendorff in 1982. After his retirement in 1986 he continued to work as a private consultant in rail transportation for a decade and enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. I'm very sorry for your loss. Mr. Dyer was a very nice man. I work for HNTB and I got to know Mr. Dyer during his visits to Frank Hall & the holiday parties here at HNTB. Due to previous engagements I don't think I will be able to attend the funeral but Tom and his family will be in my thoughts and prayers. God Bless all of you.
