Three years have passed and it is still hard for me to believe that Tom has left us. Every time I think of him, he is smiling at me, ready to listen and help, as he always did. I am grateful to have met him and his memory warms my heart. With great affection and condolences to all his family, Paola

I first met Tom in 1994 when I arrived as a raw student. As Jan has mentioned, Tom went out of his way to help new folk - driving me to the SS building in Somerville to get a number (I suspect he was having a refreshment somewhere while I was waiting. :) Taking care of the details of our grants, travel etc, and keeping the red tape and admin outside of our division off our backs. No BS, just got the job done. Put me in touch with his cousin in Ireland, with whom Erin and I stayed on our visit. Funny guy, lots of stories. Too young. Tom we'll raise a whiskey to ya.

Most of all I will miss the laughter and funny stories you shared with our lunch group. I'll always remember the devotion and pride you felt for your family. Rest in peace, dear friend. Rest in peace.

I am very sad to hear this. Tom, you helped me so much and enlightened my days with your sense of humour, joy of living and incredible strength. You will always be in my memories.

Tom was a wonderful guy, who I respected greatly. I worked with Tom at the Center for Astrophysics. He was very smart, always wanted to get things done, and looked out for the people involved. He also had a great sense of humor and a wise perspective on life -- often shared over lunch at Armando's. Thank you Tom!

Tom Mullen will live forever in my memory--not only as the FABULOUS and friendly administrator that he was for our group at the Center for Astrophysics, but also for his most famous line, which I quote and use almost every day:
"Fix the problem, not the blame." Tom's legacy will live a long, long, time--and I am so sorry he left us too soon!

I am simply stunned and saddened.
