THOMAS WOOTERS Obituary

WOOTERS, Thomas A. Of Boston and Quechee, VT, passed away on April 14, 2016, after a brief illness. Tom was the eldest son of the late Joseph Michael and Marie McGarry Wooters. After attending the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, he graduated from Boston University Law School second in his class and was the Note Editor of the Law Review. He was a partner at Sullivan & Worcester, Peabody & Arnold, and Gadsby & Hannah, where he was managing partner for two years. His areas of specialty were corporate law, tax, technology, and intellectual property. He became lifelong friends with many of his clients. Tom later combined his favorite areas of law, technology and business and spent several years at LoJack as EVP and General Counsel, where he managed all aspects of the company's legal affairs, and supported other areas that were integral to the Company's operations. Supportive of innovation and startups, he later served as a Judge and Mentor for Mass Challenge and the MIT $100K Competition. He was on several boards, including GateStor, Inc., a producer of high performance storage management solutions. Tom had an inquisitive mind and enjoyed life to the fullest. He kept fit jogging, playing paddle tennis and golf. He also introduced two of his granddaughters to skiing. Since 1995 he attended Summer Acoustic Music Week sponsored by WUMB Radio, and relished the excellent instruction, jamming, and workshops. A knowledgeable "car guy", he loved all cars, especially his antique Mazda RX7. An accomplished photographer, Tom was an active member of the Quechee Area Camera Club, and his photos were recently included in a photo exhibition at the Norris Cotton Cancer Center in Nashua, NH. A favorite family story was that at MIT, during the winter he organized a beach party in his dorm room by covering the floor with foundry sand and partying the weekend away. The faculty was not as thrilled as the students, and "requested" he distribute the sand around campus by filling numerous receptacles to put out cigarettes. His home in Quechee, VT, had a special place in his life. He contributed to the design and technology of the house alongside the builder, and spent many hours there making great memories with his family, along with his devoted shadow, his wirehaired dachshund, Charlie. He and Kathryn have also lived at Harbor Towers for over 20 years. Tom was a former and current Trustee, currently serving on the Garage and Operations Committees, and was currently Harbor Towers' representative on the Municipal Harbor Plan Advisory Committee of the Boston Redevelopment Authority. Tom will be missed enormously. He is survived, by his wife of 21 years, Kathryn Mohn Wooters, by his two children from his previous marriage, and their families, Kimberly Wooters Polcari and her daughters Alana and Skyler, of Sudbury, Thomas A. Wooters, Jr., and his wife Sheila, and their children, Ciara and Aidan, of Sudbury, his brothers Michael Wooters and his wife, Carol, of Redding, CT, and Garry Wooters, of Braintree. A memorial service will be held later this summer. In place of flowers, donations may be made to the NE Center for Homeless Veterans, 17 Court Street, Boston, MA 02108, and the MSPCA-Angell, 350 Huntington Street, Boston, MA 02130. I send my sincere condolences to the family of Tom.

I've known Tom for years from our association in music with the SAMW community. This past summer I had the pleasure of building on that friendship as we roomed together at the Inn on the shores of Lake Winniepesaukee.

His kind smile and wonderful songs will be sorely missed.

Family and friends of Tom,

I am sorry for your loss.

Tom was a fellow camper at WUMB's SAMW (Summer Acoustic Music Week) to which I used to attend. I am blessed to have known him--his joyful calm, passion for music, and ready smile.

He will be missed.

So sorry to hear the news. Tom and I would always spend a few hours sitting on the Inn porch playing a few tunes, telling a few stories and just enjoying the scenery at SAMW music camp. I will miss him.

Dear Kathryn,

I'm so sorry to hear about Tom. I met Tom at SAMW many years ago and roomed with him several times. He was gentle, bright and articulate and could alwqays get a laugh out of me. As much as he loved SAMW I also know how much he looked forward to you picking him up. He wasw a true gentleman and will be greatly missed.

Truly one in a million... Blessed to have had Tom for a father-in law and grandfather to our two children. A favorite memory will always be the time he and his loving wife Kathryn were over for dinner. An avid guitarist, he brought his steel guitar and strummed and sang "Charlie on the MTA". Fascinated, Ciara and Aidan strummed the strings, all smiles and giggles.
Thank you Tom Sr.for your gentle presence. It will forever live in our family's hearts.
With love,
Tom Jr,Sheila,Ciara,and Aidan Wooters

Your gracious presence and astute problem-solving brings to mind the words of Lincoln, ...with malice toward none and charity toward all. Your memory is a blessing for us all. We will surely miss you.

Dear Kathryn,
I have just learned that your husband Tom has passed away. I wanted to say how sorry I am - and in this I know I am joined wholeheartedly by the whole board at Phaunos; I am sure the other directors will be in touch with you directly.
I cannot guess the circumstances but, whatever these may have been, it is so hard to see one's loved ones taken away so brutally by illness. I wish you much courage, in the knowledge that nobody can take that away from you, and much comfort from your children, Kim and Tommy.
