So I was in infantry school with Travis and i'll never forget his hair style or lack of. He was a really awesome guy and Marine. Two memories mainly stick out. 1- I would always run into him in the camp geiger boot hangout. Just a small building with tvs, pool table, food and he told me he wanted to save his money. I wish I would have done what he did by thinking smart on not spending money, that always impressed me. 2- Travis and I got into a small stupid fight while throwing clumps of dirt into each others fighting holes, well we both pushed ourselves to the limit, turned out it ended up with sticks flying all around at each other and we realized what we were doing, laughed about it and got back in our fighting holes. This was during a little downtime and Marines and downtime are a dangerous mix. Tomorrow I am getting Desiato tattooed to my arm along with several other names. We went to seperate units, I went to Small Craft Company and sadly learned after Phantom Fury that he was KIA. It really sucks when you can't control these things. To Mr. and Mrs. Desiato, I'm very sorry for your loss. He was a brave, smart, well respected man and Marine and a friend. I am truly honored that I knew him and became his friend even if it was only for a few months, he just had that impact on people.
RIP Travis

I met Travis at his boot camp graduation. He was a member of my sons company and the Guide of that company. He was a wonderful young man. My son also went to war in Iraq and he came home safe. I also happen to work in the same hospital as Travis' parents and I felt his loss deeply. I think of that young man every day when I see my own son and of that day in December 2003 when he marched so proudly carrying the company flag in his dress blues. That photo is on my refrigerator and I will not nor could I ever forget the sacrifice we paid with the loss of such fine young men as Travis.

Dear Family of Travis R. Desiato,
My name is Derek Abel and I am a high school student in Sudbury, MA. I was given an assignment to write a letter to the family of a fallen soldier. It did not take long before I found that i was in fact deeply humbled by the noble sacrifices that your son and many other men and women made to our country. When I saw that your family was from Bedford I stopped for a second. It hit me that I may have played sports against your son and his friends. Just the thought that I might have even met your son was humbling. One thing I have always wanted to do was to shake the hand of someone in uniform and really thank them for every thing they are doing to keep me and the other people in this country safe. I want to make it clear to you and your family that I appreciate and admire the sacrifice that you, your family, and your community made. Nothing is more inspiring and humbling than putting yourself behind the safety of others around you. For this I thank your family and your son for everything that he and you did in protecting our nation.
Sincerely,
Derek Abel

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.
The Wind on The Downs
“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”
(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )
Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….
“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”
I did not know Travis, but I am remembering

The Other Side
i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.
can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.
i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.
it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side
the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.
i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

Travis,
I will never forget your brothers puting your things together in the courtyard of the house you were all staying in. They used it as an altar and had their own memorial service right there. They were deeply affected by losing you. You were such a big part of their lives and then you were gone. I know it's only a drop in the bucket of what your family and your new bride lost but they felt it too.
You, your smile, your laugh and your quick wit will always be missed. Thanks for making our lives richer and know that I will continue to pray for your family and will never forget you.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.
Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.
I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

For those who have had cold sleepless nights, endless days of discomfort,
For those who have endured the agony of war for my sake.

For those who have gently kissed a loved one goodbye,
and with a tear looked back for a last time,
For those who have found courage to carry the sword of liberty,
For those who have flown with the eagle,
For those who have landed on foreign soil,
to take freedom to other countries while keeping
freedom in ours,
Thank you.
For those who have lost limbs, lifes and loved ones,
For those who have lost friends, sisters ,brothers, mothers and fathers,
For those who have sacrificed and gave their all for freedom's sake.
Thank you.
For those who have found the courage to stand,
For those who have reached out a hand for their fallen comrade.
For those who give freedom to strangers ,and a hope for peace.
For those who sacrifice all they love, and pay the price for freedom.
