TRICIA MCDONALD Obituary

McDONALD, Tricia Lived life with deep authenticity, profound grace, and incredible brilliance of spirit. A lifelong natural athlete, at the age of 38, Tricia discovered yoga. In 2002, at the age of 41, she became a certified Vinyasa yoga instructor through Eyes of the World Yoga in Providence, RI, and shortly thereafter opened her own studio, Open Heart Yoga, in Dartmouth, MA. Always one to delve deeper, Tricia went on to obtain training in Life Force Yoga, Thai Massage, Reiki, and Sound Healing.

Originally from southeastern Massachusetts, she moved to the mountains of Asheville, NC in 2009 after selling her studio to a former student. Once in Asheville, Tricia continued to teach yoga, offer private sessions, and host sound healings. Most recently she worked as New Patient Coordinator at Asheville Integrative Medicine, and was working towards becoming a life and nutrition coach. She hoped to incorporate her extensive holistic healing background into her coaching practice to help support others in living lives of balance, authenticity, and joy. Greatly appreciative of the beauty of the natural world, Tricia could often be found cycling, hiking or walking through the hills and mountains of western North Carolina and beyond. An avid reader, her rocking chair never sat long empty, and she spent many hours with a steaming mug of tea nearby, her cat, Kitty, in her lap, and dog, Zephyr, at her feet. Tricia passed away at the age of 54 on September 26th in Asheville, NC after a brief illness; she was surrounded by her family. The daughter of Lena McDonald, 85, and the late James McDonald, Tricia is survived by her husband, Virgil Jones, 60, two daughters, Jenifer Melo, 35, and Sarah Elderkin, 26, son-in-law Nelson Melo, 38, grandson Gabriel DeCosta, 13, three brothers, Jim McDonald, 57, David McDonald, 53, and Ed McDonald, 47, two sisters, Karen Ravenell, 52, and Maureen McDonald, 51, her dog, Zephyr, 10, and cat, Kitty, 1, as well as many more extended family members and wonderful friends. She will be greatly missed, but her remarkable presence will shine on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. We raise our teacups to you, Tricia, for a life well-lived and well-loved. No services will be held at this time. -May the long time sun shine upon you, all love surround you, and the pure light within you guide your way on-

Tricia was a dear friend and though we hadn't spoken in years, I thought of her often. I was shocked and saddened today when I googled her name wanting to contact her and learned of her passing. My sincere condolences to her family and friends. I will remember you forever, my friend.

Practiced yoga with Tricia for a long time in Dartmouth. Did not keep in touch after she moved to NC, but she was never forgotten and remains one of the best yoga teachers I have experienced. Hope you are at peace Tricia. Love, Manjari

It was a life well lived but way too brief. It can't be called tragic, because she packed so much into her life and openly/generously shared it with all who were privileged to know her. Our lives were enriched and changed forever. We were given a tremendous gift to treasure. Hopefully we will all find, with Tricia's help, what we searched and yearned for and to find each other again in another place and time.

As I remember Tricia from the first day we met to the last day we spoke, " A Ray of Sunshine" is how she will carry on. Her brilliant smile and great personality I am sure has touched many.
We enjoyed a great meal's and uplifting conversation during our friendship, as she move's on to a higher level she will truly be missed in person but I am sure she will always be here in spirit, as her spirit was more powerful than the vehicle that carried it.
Everyday when the wind is blowing and the sun is shining or the rain is pouring Tricia will be with uus all.
Peace to all who knew her and sympathy to thoes who did not, I will miss her voice but will never forget her smile, and her presence.
love Craig
