VIRGINIA MULHERN Obituary
Sister Virginia died peacefully at Tufts Medical Center on August 11. She was a dedicated member of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur for 71 years. Daughter of the late Thomas and Josphine (Curley) Mulhern and her late brothers Lucien OFM (Thomas) and John (Emmert) and his wife Michelle and a devoted aunt to her nephews Jonathan and Brendan and grandnephew Edward.
Virginia was raised in West Roxbury, a graduate of Notre Dame Academy, Emmanuel College, and the University of Notre Dame. She taught students in Waltham, Somerville, East Boston, Tyngsboro, and served as Pastoral Minister in East Boston, Revere, Jamaica Plain and Roxbury. Her many years of ministry involved being a fearless advocate for Justice and Peace issues.
Her family and her Notre Dame and parish community will welcome people to St. Mary of the Angels Church in Roxbury on Wednesday, August 15, from 10 AM to 11:00 with a Prayer Service at 11:00 followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30. Interment will take place at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, 30 Jeffreys Neck Road, Ipswich, MA 01938

A year has just about gone by since Sister Virginia has passed on. As a 1970 classmate of St. Joseph's High School in Somerville, we are starting to plan our 50th. Reunion for next year. Some of us have already been getting together and we talk about our school days and Sister Virginia's name is always mentioned with great fondness and wonderful memories. She was truly a very caring person who was loved by her students.

I not only was lucky enough to have Sr.Virgina as my Algebra teacher at
Fitton High School but also as a friend while an SND. She remained a close friend to the class of 1959 for over 50 years meeting with them every year. A remarkable and devoted person to education and ministry to the poor.
She was a true daughter of St. Julie Billard.

I was truly blessed to have Sister Virginia as a teacher at St Joseph's in Somerville.
Her love and encouragement enabled me to become the woman I am today. I have so many fond memories of her. May she rest in peace.

To all of Sister Virginia's family,
I am truly sorry to hear of her passing, she was a wonderful person and teacher and I enjoyed being in her classes as well as homeroom at St. Joseph's High School in Somerville. As long as we keep Sr. Virginia in our memories, she will always be with us. She will be missed by so many, but not forgotten.

Sister Virginia was a niece of my grandmother, Marcella Mulhern. I met her just once, but her generosity of spirit left a lasting impression. Ar dheis De go raibh a h-anam dills.

I am so very sorry to learn of the passing of Sr. Virginia, one of the most caring and loving people to grace our lives. She did such wonderful work in all the various places and positions in which she served.
She gave of herself freely every day to those in trouble or need of any kind. She had an aura of goodness and spirituality that was palpable. As well as her dearly loved nephews Jonathan and Brendan, her adored grandnephew Edward and her many friends, she was loved by all her extended family in Ireland where she occasionally visited throughout her long life. I shall miss meeting her on my visits to Boston. Goodbye my very dear cousin. May you rest with the angels. I love you. Joan, Galway, Ireland.

I am so sorry to hear of the loss of Sr. Virginia. She had a profound influence in the lives of the girls she taught at St. Joseph's High School in Somerville. She was a bright light in our lives. I will always cherish the memories I have of her. There is no doubt in my mind that she is peacefully resting in the loving arms of Our Blessed Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. You are truly loved, Sr. Virginia, and will be dearly missed.
