Pa,
The wake is over and they have buried you deep. The flag that covered you, is now held close by Ma to her heart. Taps were played and sounded the sweetest I've ever heard it.
Pa,
I was not the stoic first son as I thought I'd be. When I knelt to say goodbye to you on Saturday morning, the heavy and uncontrolled sobs betrayed me. I at first tried to fight but soon learned that I was not, nor would I be in control this day.
Pa,
The memories have not ebbed in the past few days. I go to sleep with the vision of our last few minutes together and remember that you, as always was the case, did what you had set out to do, and did it your way!
Pa,
You would have been so proud of Ma! She carried herself the way she has done for the past 52 years of marriage to you. She cast aside the walker and with two of your grandson's assisting walked head up and tall to your final resting place. Your Hero did very well!
Pa,
I'd type out more and this entry would go on forever but, the tears have begun to flow and I need go and hug some of your grandchildren. I figure I'd start paying forward the thousands of hugs I got from you.

In the just short of 4 yrs that I have known Water and his family, I have come to Love and respect both Pop and Mom, and the family they have created, and what a family they are! A wonderful reflection of just who Walter and Mary (Maureen) Sullivan are. Walter and Maureen welcomed me and my family with open arms and always made us feel at home, as if I had known them all my life, I could not thank them enough for the morals, respect, and love they have instilled in their son Steve. Steve is a wonderful man who believes in family first, his Dad was his Hero and will be missed more than words can say. We will keep a smile in our hearts everyday as we think of Walter, and laugh out loud as we remember his wit and humor, and it is with much pride and respect we remember the kindness and love he had for his family.
With Love forvever in our hearts

MAUREEN AND FAMILY,
WE WERE DEEPLY SADDEN TO HEAR OF YOUR LOSS OF WALTER. WALTER WAS AN EXTRAORDINARY MAN, AND WE FEEL BLESSED JUST TO HAVE KNOW HIM. HE WAS THE TYPE OF MAN WHO COULD MAKE YOUR DAY BETTER JUST BY BEING THERE. WE HAD SOME GREAT LAUGHES AT THE OFFICE, FROM HIS LACK OF TECHNOLIGY TO GETTING ALL THE GIRLS NAMES MIXED UP(TO MANY C AND K NAMES TO KEEP STRAIGHT, MUCH EASIER TO JUST YELL KRISTA AND WAIT FOR ONE OF US TO ANSWER HE USED TO SAY) YOU TRULY WILL BE MISSED BY EVERYONE WHO KNEW YOU.
LOVE,

Well Papa Smurf,
You essentially brought sexy back, if it wasn't the amazing silver hair you so expertly groomed, or the countless crisply pressed shirts/slack combos (thank you Nana), or the James Bond like swagger, you were a Man above men.
Your existence in this world, gave birth to an amazing 3-Ring circus of a family. A family that has seen its up and downs, but its core stable and solidified by you and Nana. Sometimes I thought of you like a wise ol’ man at a top of a mountain, offering the wise teachings of life, yet you weren’t on this proverbial mountain, you were on the 3rd floor of the “Rinker-Linker Lakes Apartments”, and your wise teachings were started with “1) Thou shall not touch thou hair...”. Beyond all adversities you and Nana have gone thru throughout your lives, each and every time I saw you, you never failed to put on a huge smile. A smile which was extremely contagious and plagues many of us today and forever when your name is mentioned.
Your exit, which by the way was approved by the great Frank Sinatra, "My Way.." and the FAA “The pattern IS NOT FULL Maverick..” has left a significant void in not only my heart, but the hearts of the family you and Nana created. A void that I'm not quite sure how to fill, but I do have some ideas that might require mass quantities of Aqua Velva, Small Regular Coffee’s from D&D’s, Heineken, and a top off of a couple Rusty Nails. I guess I’ll figure that out at a later point.
I know as I’m writing this your probably saying, “Matt quit being such a turkey...” Sorry Pops, I can’t. My memories of you are so rich with beefy laughter and love that it counters the best tasting steak from the Dandelion Green, yes I know debatable, but I’m willing to argue to point.
I miss you so much Pop, and I promise you your request will be fulfilled. Say Hi to Uncle Arthur, and if you need new shoes when you arrive in heaven, ask Larry, as I’m sure he found a guy that can hand-make a pair for ya, and for FREE!!
Love you Pop!

To the Sullivan family,
Walter always had a smile on his face, a gleam in his eyes and a hug for you whenever he saw you. We will always remember that smile. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you.

Oh Papa, how i miss you already. I loved you for your laugh, your smile, your warm heart, and firm hand shake. I loved you for the way you always had good advice, never judged, always had two open arms for big hugs. You always had such a glimmer in your eyes for you shared so much love with us everyday. Nana and You were always there for me, when i messed up, when i said something wrong, or just to pat me on the back. You never turned your back or walked away when things got tough, and BECAUSE OF YOU, that is the reason i stand here today so strong and so eger to make you proud. Papa i love you, i told you everytime i saw you and i ment it, and i know when you said you loved me to, words were never enough because you always followed up with a big hug and a kiss on the cheek. I may not ever hug you again, or hear your voice, or see your smile. But i will ALWAYS feel you around me, for you my papa are forever with me.
I love you! and miss you oh so much already... Please watch down on me, i will make you proud.
Because remember, All this (you know the family and everything) Well its all You And Nana's Fault. And Have You know, Joel did end up eating the Tuna Sandwich WITH the Pepper!! :)

Some of my fondest memories growing up are all of the holidays and cookouts with my Aunt, Uncle and cousins from Burlington.
Walter had survived many obstacles and life altering events, yet was able to raise one of the closest loving families I've ever had a pleasure to know and be part of.
He loved his wife Maureen, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Walter was the happiest when surrounded by his family.
I will miss my uncle's big smile and laugh.
My love and condolences to all who knew and loved him.

The first time I met my Father in Law was during the holiday season in the fall of 1989. I was most impressed with the way that he looked at my Mother in Law. You could just see and feel the LOVE that he had for her and for his family. He lived life to the fullest and always with that wonderful smile of his. We will miss you Papa.
