Bill at the age of eighteen was the curmudgeon of kindness. Our own Boston College "man with a mission" that we loved with much affection when we didn´t understand those feelings.
We were two kids a few years past adolescence from the Boston suburbs, clueless and lucky beyond words to be at Boston College in the waning days of its real presence as a Jesuit University training young catholic men from immigrant families. We were both students in "hearts and flowers" (the College of Arts and Sciences).
After graduation I never saw Bill again for forty years. His early career and work took him to many locales distant from Boston and when he returned to settle in Andover that was a foreign country to any native of Boston´s South Shore.
Bill kept the faith and those of his years that also did seemed to find ways to connect with those that shared that blessing. Thanks to Jack MacKinnon, Paul McNamara, Kevin Leary and an assortment of faithful characters for more than 50 years there has been lunch at noon on every First Friday; to gather without lingering to acknowledge faith in the Jesuit traditions and abiding affection for one another for achieving that understanding. That was my connection with Bill and it was a treasure.
Dormit in pace!

Dear Eileen,Tom,Brian and Andrew,
We are so saddened to learn of this great loss. We have so many treasured memories of times with Bill and Eileen from Paul knowing him from childhood days to times spent on the Cape, NYC and our younger married years especially our "gourmet dinners" with our group. Our caring hearts are with you and we so wish we could be there in person to express our deep sympathy.
