WILLIAM NOVELLINE Obituary

NOVELLINE, WIlliam T. Jr. Age 82, of North Andover, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2022. Born on July 9, 1940, in Medford, MA, to the late William T. Novelline, Sr. and Mary Novelline. He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Eileen; sons, Tom, Brian, and Andrew; sister, Antoinette; brother, Sylvester; and his eight grandchildren. He was also predeceased by daughter, Patricia; and brother, Gary. Bill grew up as the oldest of four children in a neighborhood in southern part of Medford, or "So Meffah" as he loved to call it, and remained close with his classmates from Medford High School. He attended Boston College where he received his BA in Economics. He was the baseball team manager and received a scholarship his final two years, enjoying back-to-back trips to Omaha for the College World Series. His dedication to BC baseball led him to be a founding member of the Boston College Diamond Club and remained an active supporter. Upon graduating, he took a job as a research analyst in New York where he met Eileen. They soon returned to Boston and were married on January 14, 1967. It was then that he and Eileen began building their family and he began building his career in the financial services industry, first with Loomis Sales and then David L. Babson and Company. In 1983, he founded Abbot Financial Management, which he managed with his son, Andrew. In 1972, Bill and Eileen moved to Andover where they raised their four children. Over his 33 years in Andover, Bill was a founder of the Andover Youth Soccer Association, served as President of Andover Little League, served on the town Finance Committee, and continually gave back to the community showing his generous nature. In addition to all these organizations, Bill was the founder of the Old Time Baseball Game fundraising event that is played every August in Cambridge and has raised more than million dollars for various local charities. Bill was a very generous, loyal family man with an infectious zest for life. Everyone who spent time with Bill, rest assured, came away with a story to tell. Visiting Hours: Conte Funeral Home, 17 Third Street in NORTH ANDOVER, MA, on Tuesday, December 27, from 4-8 PM. The Funeral Mass will be on Wednesday, December 28, at 11 AM at St. Augustine's Church, 43 Essex Street in Andover, MA. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Bill's name to the Scleroderma Foundation, 462 Boston St., suite 1-1, Topsfield, MA 01983 or www.scleroderma.org/donate and please designate the New England chapter.

Bill at the age of eighteen was the curmudgeon of kindness. Our own Boston College "man with a mission" that we loved with much affection when we didn´t understand those feelings.

We were two kids a few years past adolescence from the Boston suburbs, clueless and lucky beyond words to be at Boston College in the waning days of its real presence as a Jesuit University training young catholic men from immigrant families. We were both students in "hearts and flowers" (the College of Arts and Sciences).

After graduation I never saw Bill again for forty years. His early career and work took him to many locales distant from Boston and when he returned to settle in Andover that was a foreign country to any native of Boston´s South Shore.

Bill kept the faith and those of his years that also did seemed to find ways to connect with those that shared that blessing. Thanks to Jack MacKinnon, Paul McNamara, Kevin Leary and an assortment of faithful characters for more than 50 years there has been lunch at noon on every First Friday; to gather without lingering to acknowledge faith in the Jesuit traditions and abiding affection for one another for achieving that understanding. That was my connection with Bill and it was a treasure.

Dormit in pace!

Dear Eileen,Tom,Brian and Andrew,
We are so saddened to learn of this great loss. We have so many treasured memories of times with Bill and Eileen from Paul knowing him from childhood days to times spent on the Cape, NYC and our younger married years especially our "gourmet dinners" with our group. Our caring hearts are with you and we so wish we could be there in person to express our deep sympathy.
