Winifred Donahue Obituary

Of Burlington, MA died August 9, 2005. Beloved wife of Joseph E. Donahue, Senior. Loving mother of Joseph E. Donahue, Jr. and his wife Linda, David A. Donahue and his wife Diana and the late Cheryl A. Barry. Grandmother of Ethan, Kelley and Caitlin Donahue, Jennifer and Peter Barry and Ryan and Brendon Donahue. She was born in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada on March 19, 1923. Upon her father's death, she and her mother went to live with her mother's family in Dorchester, MA where she attended school until she enlisted in the Navy as a WAVE at the age of 21. One of her proud moments of life was when she became a citizen of the United States. She was the Waves National Corresponding Secretary from 1988 to 1992, and served on both Waves National and local Boards. One of her career accomplishments was to achieve the rank of Yeoman 2nd Class and she worked on the catalog of radio, radar and Sonar equipment that the Navy used to order parts for the ships at sea during World War II. She also worked for the Stoneham School Department after her children were grown and she took part in supporting church and town events through the years. She enjoyed working on crafts as gifts for family and friends, enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles and spending time with family and friends. She and her husband Joseph enjoyed traveling to Northern California, New Mexico, New Brunswick and Canada and also went on a family cruise to Bermuda. She recently celebrated her 60th wedding anniversary with her loving husband Joseph E. Donahue, Sr. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, Saturday, August 20th, at the First Baptist Church of Stoneham. Light refreshments will be served in the church hall following the service.
