Paul Loeffelholz Obituary

Dr. Paul L. Loeffelholz, 91, died on June 20th at The Springs Memory Care in Bozeman, MT. He was born on Feb. 27, 1934, in Carroll County, Iowa. He graduated from St. Benedict College, Atchison, Kansas and then from the School of Medicine at the University of Iowa in Iowa City. He was drafted into the US Army during the Vietnam War and was deployed to Vietnam. He married Kay Greene from Iowa City on August 10, 1957, and they raised six children. Paul worked at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center of the Department of Corrections until his retirement. In that time he rose to become Medical Director of the Department of Corrections and developed processes to identify and manage the new hepatitis C and HIV viruses in prison populations. States around the country sought his expertise on these matters.

He is survived by his wife, Kay, and five children: Mary (Ithaca, NY); Mike (Mountain View, CA); Mark (York, PA); Anne (Houston, TX); and James (Bozeman, MT), as well as ten grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by an infant son and a daughter, Barbara Peiffer of Rapid City, SD. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Iowa City.
