Suzanne McRae Obituary

Suzanne "Susie" Lea (Gwynn) McRae, 62, passed away on January 11, 2019, after her second courageous battle with cancer. Susie was born September 24th, 1956 to William & Edna (McKenzie) Gwynn of Eureka, MT. Susie grew up in Eureka and graduated from Lincoln County High School in 1974. After graduation, she spent a year learning to become a seamstress and the craft of working with chenille from her aunt Mae (McKenzie) Paige. This love of crafting and creativity eventually led Susie to her own small business, Suzie's Sewing & Lettermans Jackets. Susie was a Jane of all trades, and never encountered something broken she couldn't fix herself. Her incredible creativity was evident in everything she did, from cooking, wood and glass work, sewing, and personalized gifts for many family member and friends' weddings and Christmases. She loved billiards, walks around the lake, gardening, animals, and spending time with friends and family.

Susie was preceded in death by her parents, her older sister Cindy Viano (Larry), and the two great loves of her life, Kevin Kunze, and ManLee, her faithful Yorkie. She is survived by her sisters, Shelley (Tom) Shay, & Kelley (Terry) Comstock; her children, Christopher Hibbert (Bianca), McKenzie (Nick) Camp, & Michael McRae; her grandchildren, Risa Hibbert, Kayla Hibbert, Hayley Bouchard, Aaden Camp, Zoey Camp, Gracie Camp; many nieces and nephews, and her beloved Yorkies, MaeZee, Dewey, and Tubba. Susie was the most loving mother, and grandma (melmo, mamaw, mamow), and she will be sorely missed by all whose lives she touched with her art, wit, and love.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita Support Inc. (AMCSI), in the name of her grandson, Aaden Camp, at PO Box 6291, Spartanburg, SC 29304. A celebration of life will be held April 27, 2019 at the Eagles Lodge, 316 E. Main St., Bozeman, MT, at 3:00 pm. Please join us and share your memories of our beloved Susie.

It's taken me some time to process the loss of my dear cousin Susie Mc Rae. We weren't related by blood, her mom was my stepmom's cousin. But we were connected in such a special way. When I was a teenager, I spent a month with Susie and her family. They owned all the land around this huge, beautiful lake in northern Montana, near the Canadian border. Their cabin was the only house on the lake, which had an island in the middle, and the island had a big tree with a spare tire swing. Susie's mom and dad let us stay in the cabin by ourselves, because, gee, two teenage girls, alone, out in the middle of nowhere, what could go wrong?? Haha! Luckily, nothing went wrong, but those days were seriously some of the best days of my life. We would wake up and make our breakfast, then take the rowboat out to the island and swing into the water, swim, soak up the sun, and row around the lake for hours. Then we would drive into town and hang out with Susie's friends at the Dairy Queen, sipping on root beer floats, munching on cheeseburgers, and flirting with the boys. Then back to the cabin, where we would play games, and then make ourselves dinner, usually grilled cheese sandwiches and tomato soup, cuz what the hell, we were teenagers! That cabin was where I read the book "The Exorcist". What better place to read it than out in the middle of the woods, with herds of moose stomping around? I read that damn thing in one night! Didn't sleep at all, and neither did Susie, because I insisted on reading it out loud to her, poor thing! Since Susie's high school started before mine, I went to her first days of school with her as an honored guest, even got my picture taken for their yearbook! It was such a different experience, being in Montana, compared to living in Southern California. I felt like an extra on Happy Days! So thank you, my sweet Susie Q. While we drifted apart in adulthood, we will always have that wonderful memory of the amazing, incredible summer we spent together. You will forever have a place of honor in my heart. I'll miss you so much, my friend. Till we meet again. Rest in peace. With love, Lisa Pontrelli

May you be comforted by words of encouragement on the passing of your loved one, Susie. Although she is no longer here in the physical sense, you have the privilege of cherishing the precious moments shared together. Know that she remains not only in your memory, but also in our Heavenly Fathers. Psalms 116:15

"And I always thought I would see you again, now. " Your shiny, loving, generous spirit, couched in laughter & fun, will always shine for those of us left behind, bereft in the dark of your passing. I miss your foreface, sister.
