Andre Renard Obituary

Andre Joseph Adrian Renard, M.D.
June 29, 1940 - November 22, 2022
Holmes Beach, Florida - It's with sadness we announce the passing of Andre Joseph Adrian Renard, M.D., age 82, on Nov. 22, 2022. Andre passed away peacefully at home after a long battle with Parkinsons disease. Andre will be remembered for his humility, sense of humor, kindness, sense of adventure, talent in his surgical profession and art. He was a loving husband, father and friend to many. Andre was born in Brussels, Belgium to Louis & Emma Renard. His two siblings; Claudine and Daniele (who predeceased him). Andre attended Medical School at in Brussels and did his Residency at St. Gilles Hospital in Brussels, Belgium. He practiced Internal Medicine until making the big move to the United States in 1970 with his wife, Arlette, their children for a full Residency in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery. His original intent was to go back to Belgium after 7 years of training but decided to stay in Jacksonville with his family. His children; Valerie, Alexandra and Laurent attended schools in Jacksonville while Andre practiced with Bernie Kay, founder of American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery. He was a skilled Plastic Surgeon who spearheaded Micro-thumb re-implantation surgery, TRAM flap used for breast reconstruction after cancer, transgender surgery with a team in Jacksonville and many other cutting-edge surgeries at that time. He is published in Plastic Surgery journals for the 'Renard Flap', reconstruction of the ear.
In 1993, Andre moved to Manatee County. He married Carol Whitmore in 1994 and practiced in Manatee County & Sarasota County until his retirement in 2014. Many of his surgical/medical colleagues and friends referred to him as the maestro and renaissance man due to his surgical talents of very difficult cases and artistic talents. A self-taught artist, he was recognized by the Florida Medical Journal and drew the cover of the journal for eight years. He showed his work in New York at the New York Art Expo. A true Renaissance man, he was passionate about life and family. His talents included being an exceptional painter, a great dancer, a Green Beret, a brown belt in Judo and an avid equestrian & polo player. He also gave his time by providing free medical attention to indigent patients in his private practice and at Turning Points.
He is survived by his wife, Carol Renard Whitmore; son, Laurent (Marie-France); daughters; Valerie, Alexandra (Thom) and Janae (Scott); along with grandchildren; Sabrina, Michael, Stephanie, Kyle, Tessa, Sophia, Cale & Camden. He also leaves behind his sister, Claudine; other extended family and many close friends.

Dear Carol, Karl and I are sorry to learn of Dr. Renard's recent passing. We both thought very highly of him. Such a dear man. Generous, humble, kind, skilled, talented, and so very handsome-- always wearing a beautiful smile. He, (along with Tara), took careful care of us and our skincare needs over the years back in Sarasota. I know this is a difficult time for you, Carol-- we offer our sincere condolences, and wish you much peace.

Carol and family,
I am so sorry to hear of Dr. Renard's passing. He was a wonderful man and doctor. When you sent my medical records, they included notes and a copy of an article about my beautiful white birds that he had saved. He always asked me about them when I was there. I would be honored to offer to celebrate and honor him with a white bird release. Please let me know, if you think you would like this. I know Andre would have. God bless you all.

This gentleman and scholar, as I have referred to him, will be sorely missed by so many! He had the greatest respect for his patients, family, friends and his medical family..no matter what position you held. He was gentle, kind and giving. He stopped me in the hospital hallway to tell me about his Parkinson's and how he was going by to have to give up his surgery practice. He was humble, saddened but grateful for this opportunity, blessed by the relationships he had made along the way. So respectful and kind to all us nurses and was the kind of physician and person that you could call, question, and learn without reproach. He was an advocate for his patients and always had our backs! Dr. Renard, you truly are one of a kind! You impacted so many lives , in so many ways! Thank you! You will be deeply missed. My heartfelt sympathy goes out to Carol, his children, grandchildren and his family of friends. You will always be in our hearts! ,❤

My love and prayers, Chip Eggerton—RN (retired)
