Elbert "Coney" Osborne Jr.

Elbert "Coney" Osborne, Jr., age 86, died November 4, 2010 at Manatee Memorial Hospital of heart failure. Coney was born in Sanford, FL. on December 23, 1923 to Elbert & Hilda (Macy) Osborne, Sr. Coney has lived in Mulberry, Fl. all his life. Coney was a veteran of the U.S. Marines (W.W.II) and served on a detail that flew President Roosevelt to Africa for a meeting with Prime Minister Churchill. Coney and the President had conversation about Mulberry and President Roosevelt told Coney that he knew where Mulberry is and that he had visited the Mulberry Phosphate mining area to hunt and fish. Coney was an avid golfer most of his life and had made nine holes in one during that time. Coney had retired from southeast Demurrage Railroad Bureau as a supervisor. During Coney's retirement years he worked part time with "the girls" at Doss Flower Shop in Mulberry. Coney also loved to fish and hunt quail. Coney was also a member of First Baptist Church of Mulberry. Coney is survived by his son Chris Osborne, grandchildren Naomi & Will Osborne, nephew Larry Koch and wife Sue and many friends. Visitation will be Wednesday November 10, 2010 from 5:00-7:00 P.M. With a Celebration of Coney's life at 6:00 P.M. Condolences may be sent to the family @ seiglerfuneralhome.net.
