As I become one of the older guys now, I still talk about you to our young engineers as the kind of person you want to be and emulate both in work and personal life. I still miss your compassionate leadership and friendship you provided in my early career. You may be gone but you can never be forgotten.

I remembeer bertico always coming over abuelas house since i was a little girl. he would always call me feaah but i knew he would mean it out of love. i remember his outfits were always the same lol it was to cute! he was a good loving son and father. i miss him so much. i cant imagine how his family, parents must feel. I hope he met with my mom where ever he might be. they were really good friends here on earth. i hope we all meet again one day. love and miss you guys!

So, it's me again. For now, I'm posting what I posted on Facebook on Father's day. : )

Happy Father's Day dad. I would have probably gotten you something based on our conversations, put it off and then sent it to you in about two weeks to a month. Inevitably, it would have been something electronic or a newspaper subscription.
We'd probably have talked stock, talked weather, talked about what y'all were eating and what your plans for the day were. The plans probably would have involved the yard, perhaps rewatching a gators game, having a Heineken, going to home depot or Best Buy, or just doing nothing. Maybe we would have even argued about politics gotten a little pissed and then laugh. Either way, I would have enjoyed hearing from you and I would have smiled.
BTW, the weather's nice, but really damn hot. We're trying to get rid of the monkey grass around the patio. If you have any ideas other than roundup and the traditional pulling, let me know.
Either way, Happy Father's day and I hope they have good games, good drinks, and good people wherever you are.

I was stunned to learn of Herb's passing - the news reached me this week-end in the ELFUN news letter. I remember shaning Herb's hand on his first day at GE. We were all so young then. I will remember him in my prayers.

I am so very sorry to hear that my old friend Herb is no longer physically with us. His spirit will live on in the many lives he touched. It has been sixteen years since I last worked with Herb, but he is still the example for me of the leader, coach and molder of people and character that I would like to be and that I wish from others. I am a better person having known him.

Lourdes, I was also shocked to hear about your father's death. Our hearts and prayers go out to you. I have nothing but fond memories of your father. We are very saddened by the sudden loss of Heriberto. We have known Heriberto as part of the GE family since Septermber 1970. Heriberto was always a pleasure to work with and was a true professional and very dedicated to his family. We will miss him greatly.

I never had the pleasure to meet Herb in person (only by reputation), but after reading through these messages, I wish I had. It is clear that his legacy truly rests in the great family he leaves behind (including close friends and his family in GE). The outpouring of love through these entries are a testament to how many people he touched during his time with us. My most sincere condolences to his family and friends, and may you take comfort in the memories you shared with him while most of us will only get to wish that we could have a chance to do the same.

Herb was a great friend He was also a personal mentor to me and many other engineers in the GE manufacturing orgranization. Herb was impressive -- he was great engineer and a great manufacturing leader. His experience and easy-going outlook inspired me, and many many others. I will miss you Herb!

Herb always took the time to impart his Gas Turbine knowledge. It has been a while since I worked with Herb in the 90s, but he always had a smile and kind word if he met you in the hall. Herb was an anchor in Greenville and he will be greatly missed.

Dear Lourdes and family,
I am very sorry for your loss. I worked with Herb when he was a young green engineer. I would call him to my drafting board for his signature and we would spend as long as it took to wrestle and agonize over the decisions required to insure the technical information on the drawing was accurate so the gas turbine part could be made. He would sign the drawing and go back to his office but not before we exchanged pleasentries about the progress of our families. Herb had the ability to make you feel like you were an important part of the work and the planet. I had not seen him for some time since my retirement but was pleased to get a short but very nice thank you note from him for sending him some online photos of an "Old Goats" retiree's party in May of 2008.

The last time I saw Heriberto was in March, 1970, just after he graduated from U.F. We remembered the times spent up there, and I wished him well. We lost track of each otherafter that. I was glad to meet his wife and family and see that he had had a great family life. He will be missed; at a time ike this I remember and old spanish saying: "No se mueren los que se van, solo los que se olvidan" trans:

Heriberto, My Friend....
We cried, we laughed, we were bored, we were happy, we took the same classes, cursed the professors at times, spent hours with the homework and especially our Senior project with the mass-spectrophotometer…what a trip that was, we watched TV, we dreamed of girls, we drank the beers, we anxiously waited for the minute we could get in the car to go to Miami, we loved our parents, we enjoyed all of our times together in Gainesville, we loved UF, we loved the Gators…...You went to GE, I went to Pratt. We both had wonderful loving wives, and both of us had a girl and a boy. Look at them now…they are so beautiful.
But Herb, I never had a chance to say goodbye. Or to be with you often. Or to say I miss you. Or to say I love you. But I know one day I will see you again and make up for all the times I did not. Wait for me up there.
God be with you always, and with Lourdes, Bibi, Kiki, your Papi y Mami, Ruben and Judy and all your family….

It was my privilege to work so closely with Herb for some 26 years from the early days of Greenville Gas Turbine. I had a deep respect for his dedication and professionalism, but most of all, I valued his friendship and his genuine care and concern for his co-workers.
We must trust that God has a plan for the "good guys", for truly, Herb met the full criteria.

Lourdes, when you called, & I heard your voice on Friday, the shock of your news went thru me like a bolt of lightening. I could not believe what you were telling me, and the first thing that went thru my mind was how great a loss this was going to be for you & your family, & our GE family. Just knowing Herb was around made everything ok in Rotors; his presence was so comforting. Words just can't express the empiness that we all feel & his memory will never fade from our hearts. My first introduction to Herb was my interview for an OA position in 1999: I got the job & we have worked together ever since, he will always hold a special place in my heart. I have not worked for Herb for a long time and I've only been with GE a short time, but the impact he made on me in that time will be irreplaceable. He was always here to greet me in the morning with a warm smile looking forward to another day. Herb pushed me to be better, he pushed me to be more than I could be. I am stunned... I worked for over 20 years with Herb. What a genuine man! What a Class Act!...
I worked with him at MRB (Material Review Board) and he was THE BEST! Brilliant, caring, polite, a logical thinker, mindful of others, helpful, pleasant and about 20-30 more adjectives.

I have worked for Herb since I graduated from college last year, and I couldn't have been luckier than to have had the privilege to work for him as my first boss. He was a perfect representation of how people at his level of leadership should manage and a rarity among men. I only hope that I can even come close to the way he was able to live his life. Herb was one of the finest people I have ever known. He was a pleasure to work for and he was a very kind man. His honesty, respect and true compassion for others was always apparent.
He will be deeply missed by all of us.
My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends in this time of sorrow.

Dear Herb,
I know you will never see this, or know how much you meant to me, as a friend and a mentor. I will never have the chance to tell you that our talks were the high light of my day. Your happy attitude and constant smile was a welcomed sight when things weren't always going as planned. You had a way of making people feel really important and always encouraged us to try new things to be the best that we could be. The thing I am going to miss the most is seeing your door open and knowing that I could look to you for advise and help. You left us way too early Herb, we should have said good-bye to you at a big happy retirement party, not this way. I hope that you are resting peacefully in the warm embrace of the love of God and you are with all of your lost family and friends. I know you are in Heaven where you belong. You were a great person, and we should all aspire to be like you. I will always hold the memory of our friendship deep in my heart until my passing days … Good bye my dear friend, and may God Bless you.
To Herb’s family, I am so sorry for your loss; I cannot imagine the pain and hurt that you are feeling right now. You can be certain that there was not one person in the GE family that will not miss Herb. We all respected him for his knowledge and guidance. He leaves a big hole in the lives of everybody that he interacted with. We were all truly blessed to know him.
