Bradenton, Florida - John Eberle Bacon Jr. of Bradenton, Florida, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 14, 2023, at the age of 92. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Lineta; three sons, Ken, Rob (Rebecca), and Allen (Brenda); and two grandchildren.
John was born in St. Augustine, Florida, on January 29, 1931, and is the son of John and Vera Bacon. The family moved to Bradenton when John was a child. He attended Walker Junior High School and graduated Manatee County High School in 1950 where he developed lifelong friends. Upon graduating high school, John joined the Army National Guard in Palmetto, Florida. He was employed as a surveyor involved in the construction of the original Sunshine Skyway Bridge. Later, John retired from Eastern Airlines (Sarasota-Bradenton International Airport) after a long career.
John was passionate about the outdoors and sharing his love of camping, boating, and fishing with his family and friends. He enjoyed retirement with Lineta and their German shepherds, traveling to their home in Nova Scotia each year. John was always willing to help others with any project, never expecting anything in return except for small gratuities in the form of cake, cookies or beer. John will be remembered as a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
A private gathering will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made to the Humane Society of Manatee County, 2515 14th Street West, Bradenton, FL 34205.
