Julia "Chris" West

1930 - 2026

Julia Christine "Chris" West passed away peacefully on February 7, 2026, in Bradenton, Florida, at the age of 95.

Born on December 19, 1930, in Caruthersville, Missouri, Chris moved with her family to Bradenton in the early 1930s, where she was raised and spent her adult life. She graduated from Manatee County High School and went on to build successful careers in interior design and real estate.

A devoted mother, wife, and Christian, Chris was deeply involved in her community. She was a longtime member of Trinity United and later First United Methodist Church, where she shared her gift for music as a leading voice in the choir and a frequent soloist during holidays and special services.

Chris had a lifelong passion for tennis, playing well into her late 80s. She was also a lifetime member of the Entre Nous Women's Club and an active participant in local bridge groups. Her support for her sons' and grandchildren's activities brought her great joy over the years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Rodger West; her parents, Charles and Ruby McGougan; and her brothers, Gerald and William. She is survived by her sons and their wives: David (Margarita), Dan (Jill), and Steve (Tina); eight grandchildren: James, Kevin, Whitney, Jonathan, Michael, Jason, Stephanie, and Kyle; and two great-grandchildren: Nova and Palmer. The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her cousin Cathy, who lovingly cared for Chris over the past four years, as well as to her many friends, neighbors, and extended family.

A service will be held at First United Methodist Church, 603 11th Street W, Bradenton, FL 34205 on Wednesday, March 25, 2026, at 1 p.m., with a reception to follow.
