Holmes Beach, Florida - Margaret Art, 98 yrs, of Holmes Beach, FL, passed peacefully on February 15, 2025 at Lifecare Center of Sarasota.

Margaret Gloria Wold was born on October 9, 1926 in Los Angeles, CA, to Elisabeth Schemkes, an au pair, and Paul Wold, a Norwegian Merchant Marine who 'jumped ship'. She grew up on a small farm in Weston, CT with her younger siblings, Elenore and William. The family also lived in Oslo, Norway, her father's native country, from 1934-1939.

She married Richard Art in 1946. They built their own brick house in Stratford, CT, then moved to New Jersey with their four boys in 1963. They always had a boat, and enjoyed fishing and cruising trips.

They retired to Holmes Beach around 1979, staying active with volunteer work in the community. Margaret was the founder (and most familiar face) of the Roser Church Thrift Store in 1997, and was honored in 2022 for her 25 years of service.

Strong, independent, frugal, thoughtful, loving, and creative, Margaret was always busy doing something productive, often in service to others. There was little that she wouldn't tackle. Margaret enjoyed growing fruits and vegetables, orchids, and more. She was a talented florist and artist, hand-painting heirloom china and creating jewelry.

Margaret was predeceased by her son David, husband Richard, and siblings Elenore and William.

She is survived by her three sons, William (Norah) Art, Donald (Ann) Art Whitman, and James (Robin) Art, and their families, including seven grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Roser Church in Anna Maria on March 25 at 2:00 p.m.
