Matthew Welch Obituary

Matthew Peter Welch, 46, of Holmes Beach, Florida passed away on Tuesday, February 16, 2016. Matt taught at Moody Elementary School for 18 years. He was an avid fisherman and surfer. Matt will be remembered as a loving husband and devoted father as well as a loyal friend and colleague. He is preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Helen Welch. Survived by wife, Mona Calhoon Welch; son, Rory Welch; daughter, Sage Welch; brothers, Frederick Karl Welch, Jr., William Welch; sisters, Pamela Benham, Robyn Bensinger, Jill Welch; nephew, Frederick Karl Welch, III; he is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Memorial service will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, February 20, 2016 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, 6608 Marina Drive, Holmes Beach, Florida. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. www.GriffithCline.com

I thought about you today as I was looking at photos and texts. I am sure Mona, Rory and Sage think about you too. Today though, I think it was because I had too much time on my hands while waiting in my classroom. I am at Sugg now and life is good. I have some really great memories and laughs with you and of Greg when were were the 5th grade dream team. I miss Mr.Welch so deeply but now i know that he is truly in a better place. I had Mr.Welch through 2015 and half of 2016. It's 2017 now and i still miss him one of the most amazing times i had with him was when he would get off topic it was a funny time or lets just say every day. If you were sad he would ask you what was wrong and once you told him he would make you laugh . I love him so deeply. Rest in peace Mr.Welch.

I was one of his students and he was the best teacher I have ever had. Mr Welch told story's and just in general made school fun. Even in sixth grade he encouraged me and helped me. You will be missed Mr Welch

I cried a lot on the day my teacher died.I felt helpless,because of the great stories Matt said.It was like life advice,but more funny because he was a great and goofy teacher.My class still can't and won't let him go.My other teacher keeps pictures of Matt on her desk.I can't smile while looking at it.We all had many memories on the day after at school.We all said the funny stories and things he did while he was with us.Lexie,Gianna,and Angel,my friends all said at least 1 story.I also told some.He told so many it's hard to forget them.All in all,my class and I all loved him.

its so hard without you here at moody. i still think about you everyday and the tears always come out everynight. i miss you so much and i wish you where here with us still. Mrs. Hall is still such a wonderful person but she'll never replace you. It was my pleasure to have taught across the hall from Matt when he was a 4th grade teacher at Moody. New to Florida at that time, Matt quickly became a welcoming friend. His students loved him as his zest for life was contagious. So sorry to hear of his passing at such a young age, but all the people his life touched will keep his memory alive.
