Maureen Lantero Obituary
December 30, 1934 - June 30, 2025
University Park, Illinois - Maureen Catherine (Heraty) Lantero never forgot a birthday, an anniversary, or the best route to get to any far-reaching corner of Chicago. She was a beloved wife, mother to 7, grandmother to 20, and great-grandmother to 13. Following a 15-year battle with ovarian cancer, Maureen passed away peacefully on the morning of June 30, 2025, at the age of 90. She was a resident of University Park, Florida.
Her hugs, her laugh, and her greeting cards will be missed by her husband Larry, brother Peter Heraty, children Larry Jr. (Maureen) Lantero, Lisa (Peter) Economos, Laura (Raleigh) Woodford, Peter (Dawn) Lantero, Paul (Donna) Lantero, Mary (Greg) White, and Brian (Anne) Lantero, her 20 grandchildren and their spouses, her 13 great-grandchildren, and a bevy of nieces and nephews. A devout Catholic, Maureen took comfort in knowing she would be reunited with her parents Catherine and Peter, sisters Elizabeth "Betty" Pellikan and Lucille Lombardi, and brother Father Jack Heraty.
Visitation will be from 8:30-10:00 a.m. on Monday, July 14, 2025, at St. Vincent Ferrer Parish, 1530 Jackson Ave, River Forest, IL 60305. A funeral mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. Maureen will be laid to rest the next day, July 15, 2025, at 1:30 p.m. at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois.

Her son Larry and I were fraternity brothers at Bradley University. And I lived in Elizabeth, IL, which was close to their lake home at Apple Canyon Lake. Larry and I also worked summers together on the construction crew and the Galena Territory. So, there were lots of summer Shinigami's of two college aged males that she put up with. I remember fondly that she was always wanting to feed me something. At that age I was skinny, and always hungry, so it was a wonderful relationship for me. A lovely woman, and a great mother. I am so sorry to learn of your Mother's passing. She certainly led a very full & rewarding life. She will be missed. I am indebted to her for raising a son who was sensitive to the challenges of a middle-aged woman trying to return to the workforce. Will always be grateful. You & your family are in my prayers.

Dear Lantero Family: I am so sorry to hear about your Mom's passing. I was so lucky to have her as a neighbor all those years at Apple Canyon Lake. She was always so welcoming but made sure we followed the "rules". May you have comfort in all the wonderful memories she gave you.
