Owen McCarthy Obituary
Dr. McCarthy started his orthopedic surgery practice in 1969 in Bradenton, and was recently honored for 40 years of service by Manatee Memorial Hospital.
He was the team physician for the Manatee Hurricanes, an iconic figure on the sidelines for four decades.
Dr. McCarthy is survived by his wife Dottie, children Chip, Michelle and Michael, daughter-in-law Brigitte, grandchildren Sean and Anna, and his siblings Peter, Matt, Mark and Jean.
The funeral is being handled by Brown and Sons Funeral Homes and Crematory and will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Manatee Hurricane football program.

Dr, McCarthy was a dedicated Dr. and I had a battle with my knee for 2 yrs and 7 operations and he brought me through it like a charm. I am so sorry he did not get to see me walk. Go Bless you and your family. I send my condolence.

i never trusted any other doctor after my first surgery and went right back to doc mccarthy for my next one. i came to love dr. mccarthy, bob ,and ann in the office and oh dottie you are so wonderful i am so sorry for your family loss and the loss to bradenton, florida. i miss you at the dry cleaners. rest in peace dr. mccarthy. thank you for improving my life. i will miss coming to your office deeply. god bless you and your family.

I would come to your Dr's office with Grandma Lee,for her checkups, and I remember you giving me low-fives, high-fives, and joking around but always having a smile on your face, you are missed, and this is a total loss. It has been over ten years since Dan and I moved away from Bradenton, but we still remember seeing Owen jogging or walking past our house. There were many times you were with him, Dottie, and you both looked so happy and so much in love as you chatted with each other. I was injured overseas serving in the military. I thought my life would never be the same until Dr. McCarthy operated on me. I now have a new lease on life and owe it all to this wonderful man. I worked with Owen a lot, and found him to be not only a very caring physician, but an excellent surgeon, who always made the right decisions at the table, and provided all his patients with a good outcome.
