Roland Montanus Obituary

Roland Thomas Montanus was born May 23rd, 1934, and died June 7th, 2024, in Seminole, Florida. Tom Montanus took his last breath on June 7th, 2024, at 12:45 a.m., with his son, Keith Montanus by his bedside. He was born May 23rd, 1934, to Hugo and Genevieve Montanus in Winter, Wisconsin. Tom served in the Air Force from May 1953 to April 1957 and then graduated from Illinois State University. He was a devoted teacher and principal for 46 years. He donated his time working with the youth and choir at West Bradenton Baptist Church in his free time. He enjoyed playing tennis when his health allowed him to play. Tom lived the last 7 years in Waimea Kauai with his wife, Helen. Tom is survived by his wife, Helen, and his two sons, Keith Montanus (wife, Amy Montanus) and Todd Montanus (wife, Lisa Montanus). Two grandchildren, Stephanie Ralston (husband, Cole Ralston); three great-grandkids, Cole, Lyla, and Rhett; and Sadie Larson (husband, Chad Larson); two great-grandkids, Margert and Georgia. He will be remembered as a devoted man in the development of children, a server, a good brother, father, and leader. He will be celebrated with a gathering of family and close friends on Saturday, June 15th, 2024. Time and place to be announced. I enjoyed knowing Tom since we were in grade school. We both attended the Ashton Presbyterian Church, Ashton Schools, etc. He always seemed to be
happy and ready to face a challenge. I'm sure he will be missed by the entire Montanus clan as well as those of us who reconnected with him on the Internet.

He was the principal at Prine Elementary when my son was there in the late 80's. He also was a regular part of the McDonalds coffee club on Cortez Road and 34th Street. My husband Frank is a part of that club and enjoyed many hours of story telling with Tom. God Bless the family during this time of loss.

Mr Montanus was my principal at Prine in the 80's, I will never ever forget him. My prayers are with his family at this time

Remembering "Mr. Montanus" with great fondness; deepest sympathy to his family and loved ones. My mom, Elizabeth Schmelzer (7/4/30 - 6/24/23) was school secretary for Mr. Montanus for many years. I babysat for Todd and Keith when they lived in Palma Sola Park 50 +/- years ago! I remember Mr. Montanus as always kind, encouraging and fair. May he rest in eternal peace and may those who loved him find comfort in knowing they'll see him again...
