Shawn Burkholder Obituary

Shawn Everett Burkholder, 29 of Bradenton, Florida went home to be with the Lord 7/11/2014. He is survived by his parents, Steve & Annette Burkholder of Bradenton, and Roy & Alesia Collins of North Port. He is also survived by Sisters Heather & Katie Burkholder, Brother in law Jesus Torres, and baby nephew Asa Daniel Torres, all of Bradenton. He is also survived by grandpa Don Burkholder of Akron Ohio, and many other aunts, uncles & cousins. A celebration of life service will be held Saturday, July 19th at 5:00pm at the Bridge Church, 4000 75th St. West, Bradenton, Florida. The family asks that donations in lieu of flowers be made on Shawn's behalf to the youth ministry, "The Front", P.O. box 10471 Bradenton, Florida 34282 Covell Funeral Home

I stumbled across the news of Shawn's passing while on Facebook. I'm reeling right now. I met him when he was just over ½ my height. Shawn, you will be missed here on earth, but praise be to God that you're home.

I've known him since he was in second grade, but Shawn spent a lot of time at our home in high school...due to the fact that he was so sweet on Kimee. He always had a hug and a smile for me and would eat anything I cooked. Shawn was so smart and musically gifted, as well. There was always a sparkle in his eye and that same little smile on his face. There was no doubt that Shawn loved to worship God through music. I am so sad that he is gone, but I am so grateful for the gift of knowing him and for the joy that he brought to my Kim's heart all these years. Love you, Shawn.

I only met Shawn once at Lisa's 50th birthday party. When I shook his hand he began to stand up even though I could tell it pained him, and I told him " no please dont get up"...... unfortunately I will never have another conversation with that young man. I know that some think facebook is nothing but gossip and silliness but I for one am grateful that it brought me back together with an old friend from school. Steve, you and Annette are such wonderful people who raised an equally wonderful son. I did not know Shawn but, the light in both of your eyes when you spoke of him ensures me that he was indeed all of the wonderful things I have heard. In times like these we can only offer words of comfort and love and hope that somehow they can reach deep enough into the darkness to provide some light.
