Walter McKeithen Obituary

Bradenton, Florida - Walter Shands McKeithen, Jr., MD born in Jacksonville, FL January 18, 1928 passed away on June 29, 2022 in Bradenton, FL.
Educated at Sewanee â€" The University of the South and Vanderbilt Medical School, he completed his internship at Ohio State University and residency program at Charity Hospital, New Orleans, LA.
He served his country as a physician in the US Navy stationed at Camp Pendleton, San Clemente, CA.
Dr. McKeithen practiced Obstetrics and Gynecology in St. Petersburg, FL for 37 years. After retiring from private practice, he joined the medical faculty at Bayfront Medical Center. He received numerous awards during his lifetime of service for excellence in the practice of medicine.
He is preceded in death by his parents, W. Shands and Violet McKeithen; and his brother, Thomas McKeithen. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Joan McKeithen; his children; Ken (Wendi) McKeithen, Julie (Stephen) Prielozny, Edward (Patricia) McKeithen and Michael McKeithen; his 7 grandchildren; Melissa, Kathryn, Julia, Shands, Matthew, Christine and Michael; his great-granddaughter, Julie; and his sister, Kathryn (Edward) Wulbern.
A Service and Reception will be held on Saturday, July 9th, 2022 at 11AM at the First Presbyterian Church 1402 Manatee Avenue West, Bradenton, FL 34205.

My deepest sympathies to Joan and the McKeithen family. We sat at the same table for dinner a few times here at Westminster Point Pleasant and Walter (Shands) was always a pleasant person to be with.
