Agnes Martin

COUDERSPORT - Agnes T. Martin, 88, a resident of Cole Manor, Coudersport, passed away Wednesday (March 4, 2015) at Cole Memorial Hospital, Coudersport, after a brief illness.
Agnes, a lifetime resident of Austin, formerly resided at 165 School St.
Born on June 25, 1926 in Austin, Agnes was a daughter of the late Charles and Eva Matwiecz Norek. On April 24, 1948 in St. Augustine's Roman Catholic Church, she married Norman Martin who predeceased her on July 16, 2014.
Agnes was an active mother during her children's school years, participating in many school-related projects with students and serving as a Girl Scout leader. She also worked for several years at Emporium Specialties in Austin.
Agnes was known in the community as a seamstress. She took on many sewing projects, including doll clothes for her granddaughters, clothing alterations and her beautiful embroidered pillowcases.
She was a devout member of St. Augustine's Catholic Church, actively involved in the choir and church community for many years.
Agnes was a loving and devoted wife of 66 years; she spent many hours with Norm watching baseball games from their front porch and traveling to visit and attend family events. She thoroughly enjoyed her neighbors who treated her like family. She was an amazing mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who was greatly loved.
Surviving Agnes are her daughter, Pamela Martin (Kimball) Klein of Eldred; a daughter-in-law, Rosa Leete (Mick) Martin of Coudersport; four grandchildren, Heather Klein (James) Holden of Tonawanda, N.Y., Kelley Klein (Rick) Weber of Olean, N.Y., Shena Martin of Coudersport and Maria Martin (Joe) Peters of Pittsburgh; and six great-grandchildren, Malachi, Lili, Lydia, Norah, Elias and Saige.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Helen Hardes, Mary Ours, Michael Norek, Elizabeth Ludwig, Frances Dujenski, and Stanley Norek; her husband, Norman Martin; and her son, Michael Martin.
A Life Celebration memorial service for Agnes will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at St. Eulalia Catholic Church in Coudersport, with a visitation in church an hour prior. A luncheon will be served following the service. A private burial will be held when weather permits.
