Daniel Bires Obituary
Born April 15, 1937 in Ludlow, he was a son of the late John and Mary Steffan Bires. On June 28, 1956, he married Arlene "Cubby" Irwin, who preceded him in death in 2010.
Dan was a self-employed plumber. He was the Ludlow fire chief for many years and also served as past president of the Ludlow Fire Department.
He was a member and past president of the Ludlow Water Association, a past manager of Wildcat Park and a former Boy Scout leader. He was a member of the Ludlow Sportsman's Club and helped operate the Ludlow Sewage Treatment Plant.
Surviving are two daughters, Chris (Leland) Swanson and Colleen (Brian) Bastow, both of Ludlow; a son, Jay Bires of San Antonio, Texas; five grandsons, Dan (Tina) Swanson, Ben (Trisha) Swanson, Adam (Katy) Dase, Zach Dase and Blain Bastow; one granddaughter, Brandy Tillery; and eleven great-grandchildren.
Besides his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers, John Bires and George Bires; and a sister, Martha Rambish.
A memorial service will be held at a date to be announced.
Memorial donations may be made to the Ludlow VFD.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Cummings Funeral Home Inc., Kane.
