Danny and I shared an apartment while we were working on our masters degree at the University of Central Missouri during the 1970-71 school year.
That year was both academically challenging, and because of Danny and the other graduate teaching assistants, it was also a lot of fun.
Danny and I had talked about wanting to go to law school, and I was pleased to learn that Dan had gone on to the University of Tulsa school of law at about the same time that I was at the University of Louisville school of law.
One thing that I will always remember about our time living together was that Dan always wanted to cook a beef roast on Sunday afternoons, one we could eat for several days. His view of cooking a beef roast consisted of giving it a moderate sunburn in the broiler. I´ve seen people burned like that who didn´t even go to the doctor. When he would finish cooking the roast, I would slice off my part, and put it back in the oven for a while. But he would sit there and eat his near raw beef, in a scene like something out of Jurassic Park!
Despite that difference, we got along very well. We didn´t keep in touch after we went our different different ways - Dan to become a Lawyer right away, and me in the U.S. Army.
I knew that Dan would be successful in anything he decided to do , and it appears that my belief was correct.
I´m not surprised that he was a good father and grandfather, because he was also a good friend, and a good college instructor.
