Ernest Wennin Obituary

EMPORIUM - Ernest S. "Ernie" Wennin, 94, of 31 Wennin Road, Emporium, died Tuesday morning (July 11, 2017) at Penn Highlands-DuBois in DuBois.
He was born Dec. 17, 1922, in Johnsonburg, a son of the late Matt and Hazel Gore Wennin. He married the late Leah Bell Freeman.
Mr. Wennin served with the U.S. Army Air Corps, as a staff sergeant during World War II. He worked at Sylvania for many years from where he retired as an engineer. He enjoyed traveling for Sylvania as needed. He later worked as a custodian for the Cameron County School District and also for the late Larry Lutz as a surveyor's assistant. Ernie enjoyed the outdoors and his cars, mainly Corvettes.
He is survived by one daughter, Frances (Dave) Martin of Leander, Texas; two sons, Mark (Cindy) Wennin of Clifton, Texas, and Michael Wennin of Emporium; a friend, Jacqueline Marshall of Emporium; four grandchildren, Chris, Nicole, Branden and Casie; one great-grandson, Colby; one sister, Veronica (Robert) Lyon of Emporium; and one brother, Robert (Beverly) Wennin of Emporium.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Matt and Hazel Gore Wennin; and his wife, Leah Bell Wennin, who died 2003.
There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held at a later date at the Gilmore Cemetery, Austin, where a military service will be accorded by the Cameron County Memorial Detail at the cemetery.
