Gloria Peterson

1936 - 2021

KANE - Gloria "Joyce" Peterson 84, of Kane, passed away peacefully with family members by her side on Thursday (Jan. 14, 2021).
Joyce was born in Kane on March 21, 1936, to Arlene V. & Willard C. Field. She grew up in Hazel Hurst and was a graduate of Hazel Hurst School in 1954.
She married her beloved husband of 66 years, Ronald W. Peterson, on Nov. 27, 1954, and lived at the home they built on Old Smethport Road in Kane until her passing.
Joyce was a school bus driver for more than 30 years where she met many children and went on to safely drive their children and even their grandchildren to school. In her leisure, she enjoyed outdoor activities including gardening, walking on her property, feeding her cherished birds and especially mowing her yard even at the age of 84. She also loved sewing, arts and crafts and religiously decorating her home through all seasons.
She was an active member of the Kane United Methodist Church, where she continued to positively influence the children of Kane as a longtime volunteer at the Wesley Preschool.
Joyce and her family loved to travel. When the family was young, they enjoyed short and long road trips including cross country trips throughout the United States. Later in life, she and Ron visited Alaska and also embarked on the Amtrak Southwest Chief where they traveled through many parks on their way to the west coast. She was also fortunate to explore her Scandinavian heritage on a great trip to Sweden, Norway and Denmark.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ron; her parents Virginia and Willard Field; and her brother, Jim Field.
She will be deeply missed by her sister, Carolyn Sherman; brother, Bruce Field; her four children, Steve Peterson, Mike Peterson, Christina Peterson, and Dawn Coster; 10 grandchildren, Tyler Peterson, Christina Peters, Tess Peterson, Hannah Peterson, Chelsea Peterson, Sarah Erickson, Christopher Goering, Autumn Takata, Jack Coster, and Sydney Coster; eight great-grandchildren Eleyna Para, Cadyn Peters, Owen and Olivia Peters, Aki and Kai Takata and Marcus Goering.
She also enjoyed spending time with her French bulldog Moose, and the entire wild bird population of Old Smethport Road.
The family will hold a celebration of Joyce's life this spring, her favorite time of the year when the flowers are blooming, and the birds are singing.
