Jay Gorton Obituary

Jay Gorton, 84, of Chamberlain Avenue passed away Sunday (Sept. 21, 2025) at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville.
Born June 24, 1941, in Bradford, he was a son of the late Clifford and Phyllis Harrington Gorton. He was a 1959 graduate of Bradford High School.
After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed in Germany and Turkey, and was honorably discharged in 1964.
On May 29, 1965, at East End Presbyterian Church, he married Judith D. Johnson Gorton, who preceded him in death on Feb. 2, 2020.
Jay was employed by the local Carpenters Union and he retired in 1991.
Jay enjoyed hunting and fishing with his family. He also enjoyed fishing on his boat with his best friend, Carl. He enjoyed spending time at the family camp in Cherry Springs and enjoyed woodworking and gardening. He was a former member of East End Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are two sons, Dennis (the late Cindy) Gorton of Duboistown and Jeffrey (Kathy Eddy) Gorton of Watsontown; five grandchildren, Anthony, Hailey, Orin, Ethan and Gavin; and two great-grandchildren, Remi and Brooks; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Judy, of 54 years, he was preceded in death by his brother, James Gorton of Hooksett, N.H.
He missed his wife dearly, and it gives the family comfort to know they are together again.
Family will receive friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday (Sept. 26, 2025) at Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc., 33 South Ave., where funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday with the Rev. W. LeRoy Beckes, retired Presbyterian pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Willow Dale Cemetery.
Memorial contributions, if desired, may be made to the Roswell Park Alliance Foundation or a charity of the donor's choice.
Funeral arrangements are under direction of Hollenbeck-Cahill Funeral Homes Inc. Online condolences may be expressed at hollenbeckcahill.com.

Earlier today

I am so sorry for the loss of this wonderful man, a wonderful husband to Judy for all of those years, a wonderful father to his two sons and such a good friend to so many in the community. Jay was always first to lend a hand to anyone who needed help. I know we can all be comforted that he is now where he longed to be; dancing with his wonderful Judy.

Yesterday

Denny , Jeff and your families, we are so sorry of the passing of your Dad. Jay was my dad´s best friend. Memories of all of us hunting and watching them fish on the Kinzua. Dad enjoyed Jay´s visits over at his house and watching him talk to your dad for long periods of time on the phone, talking about hunting and fishing, and what ever else crossed their minds. He will be missed for sure...
