Joan Cauvel Obituary
Born on Dec. 23, 1927, in Angelica, N.Y., she was a daughter of the late Louis Albert and Beulah Annetta Norton McHenry. She graduated from Olean High School in 1947.
On Feb. 3, 1951, in Knapp Creek, she married Lawrence C. Cauvel Jr., who preceded her in death on June 28, 2019.
Joan was employed for 42 years at Olean Wholesale co-op, she retired from the Human Resources Department as the Executive Secretary.
She enjoyed hosting get togethers, family reunions, and parties. Her hobbies included crocheting, reading, cross-stitch, and baking pies.
Joan was a member of the Knapp Creek United Methodist Church for 70 years. She led Sunday School and Youth Groups, and was a den mother for Boy Scouts. After retirement, she volunteered at the American Cancer Society office in Bradford. She was a member of the Landmark Society and Genealogy Club, Duke Center Lions Club and Christian Women's Association.
Surviving are two sons, Bruce E. (Robin) Cauvel of Derrick City, Gary (Julie) Cauvel of Marshburg; five grandchildren, Kelley (Brian) Clark, Laura (Patrick) Hickey McCartney, Melissa (Jacob) Canaan, Matthew Cauvel, Michelle (Steven) Cavagnaro; one sister, Mary Beth (John) Habbersaw of Rochester, N.Y.; and one brother, David B. (Sherry) McHenry of Rochester, N.Y.; and several nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lawrence of 68 years; one sister, Judith Conner; and one brother, James McHenry.
Friends are invited to livestream the funeral service on Tuesday, Feb. 9, 2021, at 11 a.m. The funeral services will be held with Rev. Paula Grucza, Pastor of the White Chapel Balm Charge of the United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in McKean Memorial Park.
