Nancy Dougherty Obituary

PORT ALLEGANY - Nancy L. Dougherty, 91, of Coudersport, formerly of Port Allegany, passed away Saturday (Oct. 18, 2025) at Sweden Valley Manor, Coudersport.
She was born June 29, 1934, in Lancaster, a daughter of Willis and Grace Sheap Diem. She married Robert Emmet Dougherty on April 4, 1959, at The United Brethren Evangelical Church in New Holland.
In 1974 she, her husband and daughter moved to Port Allegany. She worked in Elliot's bakery a few years after moving into Port Allegany. Nancy also worked as a cleaning lady for many families over the years. She also worked for the Canoe Place Inn for several years.
As a faithful person, she was a member of Birch Grove Mennonite Church of Port Allegany. She was also a member of Moose Lodge 460 of Port Allegany and the Star Hose Co. Women's Auxiliary of Port Allegany.
Before becoming a resident at Sweden Valley Manor, Nancy enjoyed decorating her home for the holidays. She also enjoyed baking with her grandkids. She was a plant lover and was known for her green thumb! She loved collecting chicken figures. It would bring her great joy when she was gifted one from family or friends!
For hobbies she enjoyed a quiet evening embroidering, and she passed these skills to some of her granddaughters! But as she got older she wasn't able to do this, so in turn she came to love coloring books and doing word search books. When her grandkids came to visit her, they would spend time coloring together!
Nancy loved her family and was always so happy when she got to see them!
Left to cherish her memory are one daughter, Carol (David Hurd) Dougherty of Port Allegany;
grandchildren, Jennifer (Michael) Beeson, Jeffery Hurd, Kimberly (David) Champlin, Crystal Hurd, Kavin Hurd and Amber Hurd; great-grandchildren, Caleb, Thomas, Kristopher, Kelsey, Savannah, Annabelle, Finnigan, Robert Jr., Natalie and Carver; one sister, Paulette Palmer of New Holland; and several nieces and nephews.
Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Terry Lee Diem and Willis Roy Diem; two sisters, Mary Grace Diem and Reba Mae Diem; and her husband, Robert.
Family and friends are invited to her visitation set for 10 to 11 a.m. Monday (Oct. 27, 2025) at Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes Inc., 105 Main St., where a memorial service will immediately follow with the Rev. Dale Detweiler, pastor of Birch Grove Mennonite Church, officiating. Burial will be in Evangelical United Methodist Cemetery, New Holland.
Memorials, if desired, may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
Arrangements are under direction of Hartle-Tarbox Funeral Homes Inc. Online condolences may be made at hartle-tarboxfuneralhomes.com.
