ELDRED - Robert L. "Butch" Taylor, 74, of Indian Creek Road, passed away on Friday, (Nov. 12, 2021) at UPMC Hamot following a brief illness.
Born Jan. 11, 1947, in Shinglehouse, he was a son of Jesse and Julia Kemp Taylor. In 1989 he married his sweetheart, Donna Schneider, who survives. He was a 1964 graduate of the Otto-Eldred High School and was a lifetime resident of Eldred.
Butch was a veteran of Vietnam having served in the U.S. Army in the Security Agency in Korea and Germany from 1964 until 1968.
He had been a construction equipment operator, and later was employed by Dexter Hysol in Olean for 23 years retiring in 2002, afterwards he had been employed as a truck driver by IA Construction Co. in Allegany, N.Y. and at Taylor and Armstrong, in Eldred, until 2018.
Butch was a member and past Master of the Eldred Masonic Lodge 560 F and AM, later member and past Master of the Northern Star Lodge 555 F and AM of Duke Center and a member of the Coudersport Consistory. He was a member and past Quartermaster of the Eldred VFW Post 2092, as well as a member and past Commander and Financial Officer of the Eldred American Legion Post 887.
Butch enjoyed hunting, playing cards and games, making sauerkraut and sausage and 'Apple Jack' with his family and friends, he enjoyed telling and hearing a good joke, and most of all he liked bringing his dog "Revi" to Eldred for ice cream.
Surviving in addition to his wife of 32 years are two sons, Mark (Stacy) Taylor of Apex, S.C. and Shawn (Jessica) Taylor of Shinglehouse; a daughter, Denise Taylor of Apex, S.C.; and two beautiful grandchildren, Blake and Harper of Shinglehouse, whom he loved dearly. Also, a brother, Ken 'Tuff' (Ann) Taylor of Lucedale, Miss.; and three sisters, Ella 'Pug' (George) Bickel of Apex, S.C., Annabelle (Fred) Ingalls of Smithfield, N.C. and Nancy Smith of Raleigh, N.C.
At the family's request there will be no services at this time, however a memorial service will be held in the spring of 2022, at a date and time to be announced.
Memorials may be made to the Eldred American Legion Post 887, the Eldred VFW Post 2092 or the Northern Star Masonic Lodge 555 F and AM of Duke Center.
