Carol Gagliardi Obituary

BRATTLEBORO -- Carol Ann “Pinky” Gagliardi, 60, of Chase Street, died peacefully Saturday night, Oct. 21, 2006 at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

Mrs. Gagliardi was born in Tarrytown, N.Y., on Sept. 6, 1946, the daughter of Robert and Catherine (Hennessey) Ronan.

She was raised and educated in Tarrytown, attending St. Teresa's Parochial School. She was a graduate of Sleepy Hollow High School, Class of 1964.

A resident of Brattleboro for the past 33 years, she moved to the area from Tarrytown in 1973.

Mrs. Gagliardi had been employed by the Windham Southeast Supervisory Union and initially worked as a paraprofessional at Academy School in West Brattleboro.

She later worked at Brattleboro Area Middle School as the registrar and counseling secretary, then worked at Oak Grove School eventually becoming administrative assistant at Academy, a position she held for 15 years up until June 2006.

While working at BAMS, she was an active member of the Windham Southeast Education Association and served as president of the educational support personnel.

For several years, with her husband and children, she was a foster parent taking in several area children.

Mrs. Gagliardi was a faithful and devoted wife and loving mother and grandmother whose life centered around her family. She was known for her kind, gentle and generous spirit and enjoyed helping those in need in whatever way she could, having a positive impact on the lives of the many who came to know her.

On Sept. 3, 1967, at St. Teresa's Catholic Church in Tarrytown, she was married to Jerry J. Gagliardi, who survives.

Besides her husband of 39 years she leaves one daughter, Becky Prain and her husband Christopher of Westfield, Mass.; one son, Jason Gagliardi and his wife Jenny of South Newfane; two brothers; John Ronan of Tarrytown and Christopher Ronan of Palm Bay, Fla.; two sisters; Elizabeth Schwind of Palm Bay and Roberta Calmbacher of Melbourne Beach, Fla.; a stepsister, Barbara Carano of Montrose, N.Y.; a stepbrother, Robert Ronan of Florida; four grandchildren, Hayden, Ethan, Hannah and Patrick; and many nieces and nephews and several cousins.

A memorial service to celebrate her life will be conducted Saturday at 1 p.m. in the gymnasium at Academy School in West Brattleboro with Rev. Jack Bixby, former pastor of Centre Congregational Church, officiating.

A reception will follow the service to be held in the music room at Academy. Everyone is invited to attend.

Friends are invited to call at the ATAMANIUK FUNERAL HOME on Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a scholarship fund in Mrs. Gagliardi's name to help meet the needs of Brattleboro children. Make checks payable to Brattleboro Town School District with “Pinky” written in the memo line, and mail to WSESU, 53 Green St., Brattleboro, VT 05301.u

Dear Jerry and family, I don't know if you remember me, but I grew up next to your Mom's house in No. Tarrytown. I am Angie and Ray Everett's oldest daughter, Terry. I can't tell you how sorry I was to hear about Pinky. I remember how kind and sweet and funny she was. I also remember that one year when it was my birthday, she gave my Mom her birthstone ring to give to me because my Mom couldn't afford to get me one. We were born in the same month. I didn't find this out until years after. That was the kind of person she was. I will never forget that and I will never forget her. My deepest sympathy to you and Becky and Jason. Love, Terry

I am glad to hear that a memorial service will be at Academy School. That is where so many memories of Pinky will remain for years to come. I liked working with her there, she had a great way with kids and families, and just people in general. I am glad I knew her and she was indeed a blessing and wonderful woman. I am thinking about her family at this time and wishing them everything it takes to overcome the physical loss of her. She will be remembered by so many, and in that sense she will not be gone!

My children and I are so sorry to hear about Mrs G. She was at Acadamy School with both of my older kids. They thought the world of her and so did I. She knew the kids at school better than I did some times, I still remember the time she called me at work one day and asked me if I forgot the rest of my son's sandwich when I packed his lunch. He was on a ketchup mustard amd mayonase kick at the time that's all he had between 2 pieces of bread. She knew he didn't like meat and always made sure he got extra veggies when he took hot lunch. We will miss her a lot. She still knew my kids when she saw them and they are now 17 and 22. The woman was a blessing. My heart goes out to her family. She will be missed by many many people
