Earl L. Brown
1927 - 2010 WILMINGTON, VT Earl Louis Brown, 83, a resident of Lisle Hill Road, died peacefully at his home on Saturday, April 3, 2010, surrounded by his loving family.
Earl was born at home in Wilmington on Jan. 12, 1927, son of Louis Earl and Elsie Louise Poupart Brown. He grew up in Wilmington and attended the Fitch Schoolhouse on Higley Hill Road. He was a World War II Army veteran and served with the 262nd General Hospital Corps.
He married the former Jeannette Marie Parent at St. Joachim's Rectory in Readsboro on Aug. 27, 1949.
In earlier years, he had worked with his brother, Stuart, in the logging business. Earl had worked at the former New England Box Company and for 22 years for the Vermont State Transportation Department maintaining Route 9. He worked during the winter months for the Town of Wilmington Highway Department plowing town roads. He also drove truck for Lincoln Haynes, John Poor, Joe Moore and Robert Covey.
Earl was a longtime member of the Nelson E. Pickwell Post 15 American Legion. He enjoyed hunting, working in his vegetable garden and working in his garage on various projects; however, his family was most important to him. In earlier years he enjoyed fishing and had built his present home and garage.
He leaves his wife, Jeannette Marie Brown of Wilmington; daughters, Diana Brown and Rose Brown and her partner, Gary Fuller, all of Wilmington; sons, Brent and wife Lorraine Brown of East Jamaica and Bret and wife Ann Brown of Wilmington, brother Carl and wife Hazel Brown of Wilmington; sister-in-law Joanne F. Brown of Whitingham; grandchildren, Rusty Sage, Rachel Lazelle, Rae Grabel, Melissa Brown, Sara Sterns, Earl Rafus IV, Mark Rafus and Aaron Rafus; 19 great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by brothers Stuart and Donald Brown, sister-in-law M. Joanne Brown, sister Rita Haskins and brother-in-law Philip Haskins.
FUNERAL NOTICE: Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 6, at 1 p.m. at the COVEY & ALLEN FUNERAL HOME with the Rev. Douglas LaPlante officiating. Private burial services will take place in the Riverview Cemetery. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial gifts be made to either the Wilmington Firefighters Association or Guy Hawkins Cancer Relief Fund in care of the Covey & Allen Funeral Home, P.O. Box 215, Wilmington, VT 05363.
