Eleanor Bump Obituary

Eleanor Bump 1908 - 2008 WESTMINSTER Eleanor Bump, 100, of Amherst, Mass., died at home on Aug. 1, 2008. Born on Jan. 10, 1908, in Longmeadow, Mass., daughter of Horatio Whittemore Myrick and Inez White Myrick, she graduated from Mount Holyoke College in the class of 1929, and with her husband continued a long association with the college. After living for extended periods in South Hadley, Mass., and Weston, Mass., Eleanor moved to East Run Farm in Westminster West, where she and her husband delighted in the family activities of raising cattle, haying the fields, and producing maple syrup. During her recent years as a resident of Applewood at Amherst, Eleanor flourished as an author and found special interest in and enjoyment of the nearby arboretum. She leaves are her children, Carolyn Marsh of Wellesley, Mass., Susan Vancura of Providence, R.I., and Jonathan Bump of Orwell; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Boardman Bump, her husband of 51 years, her son, Daniel, and her brothers, Sterling and Norman predeceased her. FUNERAL NOTICE: A service to celebrate her life will be Aug. 22, 2008, at 2 p.m in the Willets-Hallowell Cent.er on the Mount Holyoke College campus in South Hadley, Mass. A reception will follow. Contributions in her memory may be made to the Town of Amherst Conservation Department, Orchard Arboretum Fund, and sent to One Spencer Drive, Amherst, MA 01002, Attn. Peggy Andrews.

I have such clear memories of the family on Hemlock Rd and Ash Street in Weston and of Eleanor calmly and elegantly managing her home and growing family. She was a lovely and very erudite lady.
