Elmer Pierce Obituary

Elmer E. Pierce 1912 - 2008 BELLOWS FALLS Elmer E. Pierce, 95, of Atkinson Street died Thursday, July 10, 2008, at Springfield Hospital, Springfield. Born on Gardner, Mass., on Dec. 13, 1912, son of Samuel B. and Dorothea Lawo Pierce, he graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University with a degree in economics. Mr. Pierce was employed by the former Bellows Falls Trust Co., now the Chittenden Bank, retiring in 1976 as president and director. He served as treasurer of the Bellows Falls Village Corp., Commissioner, Town of Rockingham Cemeteries; president, State Bank division of the Vermont Bankers Association; trustee of Rockingham Public Library; panelist, Vermont Environmental Act 250; and director, Calvin Coolidge Council Boy Scouts. He was also active in the local Chamber of Commerce and Vermont Chamber of Commerce, Windham County Mental health Agency, Local Chapter of American Red Cross, Fall Mountain YMCA, Bellows Falls Area Development Corp., and the Rotary Club. His wife, the former Angela McGreen, whom he married Nov. 28, 1936,died Feb. 22, 1998. He leaves his daughters, Nancy Pierce and Marilyn Pierce and her husband, Jerome Daniels, all of Boston; a son, Douglas Pierce and his wife, Mary Ellen, of Needham. Mass., and a granddaughter, Sarah Thomas of Natick, Mass. FUNERAL NOTICE: A funeral service will be Tuesday, July 15, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the United Church of Bellows Falls. Calling hours will be Monday, July 14, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the FENTON & HENNESSEY FUNERAL HOME. Following the service, burial will take place in St. Charles Cemetery. Contributions in Mr. Pierce's memory may be made to the Kurn Hattin Homes, Westminster, VT 05158, or Visiting Nurses & Home Health Care, 366 River St., Springfield, VT 05156.

I remember Mr. Pierce from my childhood. On Friday evenings I would go to the bank with my father to deposit my allowance. Mr. Pierce would take the time to talk with me. I learned about money and the importance of savings. He was always so kind to me. God bless all of you.
