He enlisted in the Army in 1940, trained with the 10th Mountain Division, then rejoined the 26th Infantry Regiment of the 1st Division at Ft. Benning, Ga.

He married Sophie Prodromos on July 4, 1942. Less than one month later, he sailed on the Queen Mary to England for preparation of the invasion of Africa. On the first day of the invasion, also Cpl. Nestor's first day in battle anywhere, he won the Silver Star medal and was promoted to sergeant. He fought against Gen. On June 6, 1944, D-Day France, he was part of the second-hour landing on Omaha Beach at Normandy. Dear Pete and Bill--please accept my most sincere condolences on your loss. Reading your father's obituary brought back many fond memories of your dad--painting your Pleasantville house with a group of high school recruits for an incentive available after the job was done, rabbit hunting with your family beagles, the Cooper Swamp hunting club, Greek food, etc. I'm sure your father will be missed, but his life is one to celebrate and cherish.

Sophie and family,
So sorry to hear of George's passing. Growing up in Pleasantville I got to know him well (helping build dog pens and also cleaning them) Working with George at the FAA Fire Dept. was also a great experience. It was always a joy when he showed up at our house with dogs in tow for a day of rabbit hunting. He was truly a wonderful man! I wish I could make it to George's service, but my wife and I are in San Diego visiting our daughter, we send our condolences.

Dear Sophie & Family,
My thoughts are with you even though I cannot be with you. I have many pleasant childhood memories of the times our families spent together and I also recall "babysitting" Peter and Billy when they were small children and I was a teenager.
With much sympathy,
Nanette

I knew George for over 50 years. He and his beloved wife Sophie and his children, always welcomed me into their home as family. George taught how to rabbit hunt and I always enjoyed watching him work his marvelous beagles. I was honored to be at his 90th birthday party last March at the church I attended as a child, St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Atlantic City. George was the finest example of the "greatest generation". God Bless You, George.

George tried to always do what was right, both professionally and personally. He loved family and it showed. He was a great Board of Ed member and was allways a pleasure to work with.
