Michael A. "Mitch" Smith, 78, of Cranberry Township, PA a longtime resident of Brattleboro passed away peacefully on July 23, 2021 in the care of his former wife and Pinnacle Hospice.
Michael was born in Brattleboro on May 12, 1943 to Joseph C. and Anna (Juraszek) Smith.
He attended Saint Michael's Parochial School and was a graduate of Saint Michael's High School Class of 1961.
Michael proudly served his country in the United States Navy overseas and during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Michael was discharged honorably from Naval Patrol Squadron TWENTY SIX in June of 1965 and stayed on with the Naval Reserve through June of 1967.
He returned to his hometown of Brattleboro where he was employed at UPS for 20 years. He held various jobs afterwards throughout the Brattleboro and Keene area up until his retirement.
Michael moved to Cranberry Township, PA in January of 2020 to be closer to his family. He enjoyed fishing, painting and spending time with his grandson. He was a diehard Red Sox fan and like his father; would cry when they won and cry when they lost.
He was previously married to Sharon (LaRose) Amidon and is survived by his two sons and their families: Shane, his wife Cathy and their son, Travis, and his wife Christina as well as several nephews and nieces.
Michael was preceded in death by both of his parents, his son Shadd and his brother Stanley.
There will be a graveside service and prayers for family and friends at Saint Michael's Cemetery in Brattleboro in the Spring of 2022.
