Paul A. Gordon
1945-2010 PUTNEY, VT Paul Alexander Gordon, 64, of Putney, died on March 30, 2010, from complications after suffering a massive stroke. He died peacefully surrounded by family and friends.
Born May 3, 1945, son of the late Alexander H. and Myra W. Gordon, he grew up in Danbury, Conn., and graduated from the University of Connecticut with an English degree.
He worked as a Peace Corps volunteer in The Gambia, a country in West Africa, for two years. He lived in Washington, D.C., for awhile, and moved to Vermont with his now ex-wife, Elizabeth Fitzpatrick, in the 1970s.
Paul worked for many years as a cook at Kurn Hattin Homes, a residential school in Westminster, Vt., where he also mentored many children in reading and as sort of a "Big Brother".
Paul will be remembered by family and friends as someone who always had time to lend an ear, offer a smile and words of encouragement. He loved the outdoors and the peace and beauty of the mountains.
He leaves a sister, Shelley Jones of Bringhurst, Ind.; brother, David Gordon of New Milford, Conn.; niece, Andrea Squibb of Lebanon, Ind.; nephew, Allen Jones of Cutler, Ind., and their children; as well as long-time companion, Elaine Mazgelis of Melrose, Mass.
MEMORIAL NOTICE: A memorial service, to which all are welcome, will be held at Kurn Hattin Homes, Rte. 5, Westminster, VT, on Sunday, May, 23, 2010, at 2 p.m. For information call KNH at 802-721-6947. The service will be a celebration of Paul's life with food, music, and fun. After the memorial, his ashes will be scattered over Putney Mountain, as Paul had requested.
A Memorial Fund has been set up in his name for memorial purposes. Gifts to the Paul Gordon Memorial Fund will be accepted at any branch of TD Bank, or they may be mailed directly to The Paul Gordon Memorial Fund, TD Bank, 100 Main St., Keene, NH 03431.
