Ruth Tripp Obituary

Ruth Agnes Tripp, 98, a former resident of West Brattleboro and Vernon, passed away on November 3, 2025 at Vernon Green Nursing Home.

Ruth was born in Brattleboro, VT on January 3, 1927 to Minnie Hamilton Burch and Leslie Burch.

She attended Academy School for the first six grades and then moved to Turners Falls, MA where she graduated from the Turner Falls high school.

On January 23, 1948 she married Richmond A. Tripp. They made their home and raised their four children in West Brattleboro and in 1987 moved to Vernon. In 2014 they moved to Vernon Advent Christian Home. Richmond predeceased her in 2015.

She attended Peter Bent Brigham for nursing training and then went on to secretarial training at Bryant and Stratton. Over the years she worked for New England Telephone Company, Academy School lunch program, Barrows Coal Company, and as a secretary for Dr. John Houpis and Dr. Keith Clark.

Ruth was a long-time member of the First Congregational Church of West Brattleboro where she taught Sunday School, volunteered to help at church suppers, barbeques and the annual Christmas bazaar. She was church treasurer for many years. As an active community member, Ruth served as a Girl Scout leader and Boy Scout den mother and was active in the Academy School PTA.

In Vernon, Ruth and Dick were very involved in the Vernon Historians, helping to plan events, make displays and serve as hosts for open houses. Ruth had joined the Vermont 251 Club, and in visiting the state's towns, developed a special love for covered bridges. She was an excellent cook and baker as well as a talented seamstress, quilter and knitter. Ruth loved gardening, bird watching and annual visits to the Maine coasts, as well as watching the Red Sox and Celtics in her later years.

Ruth leaves behind four children: Elizabeth (Fred) Dusablon, Catherine (Rick) Pohle, Christine (Mike) Miles and Michael (Ann) Tripp; as well as eight grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren, and two nieces, Dana (Ed) Nelson and Brooke (Steve) Finnell.

She was predeceased by her sister, Doris Elizabeth Lane.

Services will be private. Donations in her honor can be made to Vernon Advent Christian Home, 13 Greenway Drive, Vernon, VT 05354.
