Barbara Shoneck Obituary

BRISTOL

Barbara M. Shoneck (Galvin), 90, of Bristol, CT passed peacefully surrounded by family on March 23, 2026. Barbara, a life-long Bristol resident, raised her family there as well. Along with her brothers, Brian and Richard Marino, she ran the family business, Wolcott Tire and Auto, for many years until her retirement. Prior to that, she was an LPN at Bristol Hospital and Plainville Convalescent Home for over 30 years. Barbara's essence was family. Her love for and dedication to her family was unlimited. She embodied the deep blessings and joy it brought to her, and in return nurtured all her beloved with hard work, patient example and learned guidance. She poured herself into her family at every opportunity. At the core were her two sons, Jay and Chris Galvin. And, as they grew and married, Barbara's abundant affection expanded to their wives and their children. She was a proud matriarch who centered her family, bringing all together at countless big dinners, holidays, annual celebrations as well as impromptu visits. She is remembered for her quick smile, kindness, and good nature. Barbara also had an impish sense of humor, teasing her brood, but always with kindness and a wry smile. Her other passions included cooking (oh, how she could cook!), reading and crosswords. Throughout her life, she was deeply loyal to and sustained by her love of God and her Catholic faith. Barbara was blessed with two families. With her first husband, the late Edward Galvin, she had two sons, Jay and Chris. She was always so proud of her boys' accomplishments as skilled tradesmen, and more so, as devoted fathers and gentle sons who carried forth her compassionate example. In 1986, she married her enduring love, Jim Shoneck. With her "Jimmy" she found true kindness, happiness, companionship and love until his passing in 2023. And through that union, Barbara gained four more "second" sons - Ted (Karen), Tim (Penny), Jeff (Paula) and (the late) Scott Shoneck (David). With her arms wide and affection endless, Barbara embraced them and their spouses, children and grandchildren. And they, in turn, cherished her. Barbara is survived by her sons, Jay (& Latifa) Galvin, Chris Galvin, and former daughters-in-law Karen Galvin and Donna Galvin. She is also survived by her brother Richard Marino and sister Judy Moots, and various nieces and nephews. Barbara's grandchildren include Jason (& James) Galvin, Kyle (& Rachel) Galvin, Jordan Galvin (and David Ecker), Caroline (& Shawn) Savoir, Joe (& Kelly) Galvin, and Jeremy and Sarah Elanaya. She was blessed with 6 great-grandchildren Riley, Oliver, Fiona, Cordelia, Jaxon and Savannah. Her "Shoneck side" family grandchildren include Adam, Megan, Jessica, Tyler, Tiffany and Krista Mae, as well as 5 great-grandkids (Paulie, Bennett, Madison, Jack and Libby). Barbara was predeceased by her cherished parents Guiseppe (Joe) and Mildred Marino, her treasured brother Brian Marino, and her dear grandson Chris Galvin Jr.. Calling hours will be held on Sunday, March 29, 2026 at O'Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Ave, Bristol from 1PM until 3 p.m..
