James Panetta Obituary
NEW BRITAIN
James Jim D. Panetta, 83, of New Britain, CT passed away on Friday, October 10, 2025 at home with his family after a long illness. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. Jim is survived by his wife of 59 years, Mary Ann; four children, Joseph, Diane, Kenneth and Lynne Marie; six granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren, along with many family members out of state.
Jim was born in Nanticoke, PA and graduated from Nanticoke High School before entering the military. He was a proud U.S. Army veteran. Jim was past Exalted Ruler of the BPOE #957 New Britain, served as past treasurer of the 8th Ward Political Club, and was a member of the Quartette Club. He was an avid motorcycle rider, enjoyed singing karaoke, and playing pinochle with his wife at the New Britain Senior Center. During his long career, he worked at New Britain
Machine, Dattco Bus Company, City of New Britain BOE and was co-owner with his wife of the Log Cabin Restaurant in New Britain for 17 years. Jim will be missed by his family and friends.
There will be no calling hours. Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family. Erickson-Hansen Funeral Home in New Britain is in charge of arrangements. Please share a memory of Jim with the family in the online guestbook at www.ericksonhansen.com

Jim was like a father figure to me
He knew me since I was a little kid when my mother worked at the Log Cabin and I grew up working there until they sold it. I loved hearing him sing Karaoke. My favorite story to tell people was how when I turned 21 he bought me my first drink at the Log Cabin bar and the look he had on his face when I ordered a Long Island Iced Tea was priceless. So many fond memories of him. Prayers and love during this time to MaryAnn and all the kids and families.

May the love of friends and family carry you through your grief. I met Jim and Mary Ann when they would come to the Senior Center to play cards. Mark served on a city commission with Mary Ann. We also have great memories with Kenny and Joe and Joe's wife Elaine Our thought and prayers are with you all.
