Nancy Denehy Obituary

BRISTOL

Nancy (Winters) Denehy, 88, of Bristol, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025. She was born in Bristol, daughter of the late Edmund and Agnes (Schultz) Winters. Nancy was the loving wife of the late Edward C. Denehy who passed away in 1998. Nancy is survived by her brother Norman A. Winters of Bristol; son Daniel Michael Denehy and his partner Susan Dederick of Fairfield; grandchildren Ryan Denehy of NY, Chelsea Rush and her husband Chris of Stamford; nephew Bruce Winters and his wife Virginia of Burlington, David Winters and his wife Robin of FL; niece Holly Fitz and her husband Douglas of Bristol, nephew Joseph Ravita of Bristol. She is also survived by many great and great-great nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, Nancy is predeceased by her sister Elizabeth Ravita, nephews Scott and Paul Winters and niece Susan Winters. Nancy attended Immanuel Lutheran School, graduated Bristol High School and went on to earn multiple degrees and certificates from various institutions of higher education. Nancy began her professional career as a Latin teacher at Bristol Eastern High School, moving on to be a guidance counselor and retiring as the head of guidance at Bristol Central High School. Like many from Bristol, Nancy worked numerous summers at Lake Compounce in management alongside her husband Ed Denehy. Nancy found comfort and fellowship for many years at her church, St. Andrew's Evangelical Lutheran Church of Bristol through her support, participation and leadership. Nancy enjoyed traveling with her friends and vacationing with her family to many locations including Europe, the Caribbean, western USA, Cape Cod and especially the Westerly area of Rhode Island. Along with her husband, she was a long time member of Chippanee Golf Club. She was active with the Bristol Historical Society and made sure to include her family, especially her nephews and nieces, in her love of history, arts and culture. A lifelong resident of Bristol, Nancy spent the last two years of her life as a resident at Shady Oaks Assisted Living. Her family is grateful beyond words for the loving and heartfelt care provided by Tyson and all his staff. Calling hours will be held on Wednesday, October 29, 2025 at O'Brien Funeral Home, 24 Lincoln Ave., Bristol/Forestville starting at 10:00 a.m. until a Funeral Home Service that will begin at 11 a.m.. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bristol. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The House of Bread, 27 Chestnut St. Hartford, CT 06120 or at www.hobread.org. To the family of Mrs. Denehy, I am so sorry for your loss, Nancy was my guidance counselor in high school, she definitely put me on the path of my career. She was an angel. May she rest in peace
